It isn't as simple as you are making it out to be. We can't acquire what doesn't exist. If there isn't an elite right back on the market we have to wait and acquire one down the road. A good example of this is Madrid waiting on TAA.

We swim in the shallow end of the talent pool nowadays like Madrid does. We have money burning a hole in our pocket that we can't deploy do to a lack of City caliber talent.

I don't buy that. It's the same excuse that gets trotted out whenever we choose to overlook a problem position, whether that's a Rodri backup, an Alvarez replacement or, in this case, a decent right back.

Funnily enough, there was no quality forward on the market when we chose to not sign one last summer. Fast forward six months when we're in shit form and all of a sudden we find one and splash the cash. Omar Marmoush didn't materialise out of thin air after Christmas. We simply got complacent and thought we could make do without. It was poor squad planning.

There are plenty of right backs better than what we have and a good portion of them would be moving to a bigger club, offering bigger wages, with a bigger opportunity to win trophies.

Almost convinced me there until I remembered we’ve bought three unconvincing central midfielders in consecutive seasons. ;-)

If or when we have room in the squad maybe we will,still now Grealish has gone we have 1 homegrown space.

You make my point by citing Marmoush. Marmoush racked up a nice body of work in the first part of the season, so it is very possible our scouts and analytics people felt they had seen enough to greenlight the acquisition. That is a good example of the club waiting for the right piece to manifest itself like I suggested they might be doing right now. Maybe they think the right guy will come along in January and they have to make do right now.

Eventually there will be right backs that will move up, but again that doesn't mean they are available right now.

But that's irrelevant to the point being made. Which is that we shouldn't have waited until January to sign an attacker. Talented players were available and we didn't act.

This inaction is something Khaldoon referred to as a mistake in his end of season interview.

We have a pretty good idea of one player we looked at and he is homegrown.

If the club aren't comfortable paying the asking price for Livramento then fair enough but if we end up spending £30m on a backup goalkeeper and god knows how much on Rodrygo then I'd have to question how we're prioritising our signings.
