So we are essentially talking about a season or 2 of guaranteed starts. So pretty much the exact timescale if Ederson stays
What are you on about, Ederson would have been leaving in a year, his performances have been declining and he’s already gone through a period losing his place.

Signing a star keeper for a big fee on big wages and big expectations to compete with is a completely different scenario and not the one he was sold.

Not sure what is so hard to grasp?

Yeah we offered Erling 500k a week, made him only striker at the club then told him he has to earn his place. Lad doesn't even get subbed off, regardless of how he's playing, unless its to give him 10min rest at the the end of comfortable wins
Exactly, there was even the reports that he has a clause where he has to start in the champions league. Not to mention his ten year contract.

He’ll end up at the rags. They’re desperate for a keeper. And it will be them getting one over on us again we all know what the pathetic wankstains are like
I’m thinking he’s going Old Toilet too, he’s using us to panic the rags into signing him, I’m simply not convinced Pep would want Donoruma, his kicking is reported to be a weak part of his game, as is, apparently his ability to command his box against teams crossing the ball in…an important feature for a premier league goalie…But we shall see. In Pep I trust.

Grealish played 2 seasons where he was guaranteed to start. It was deemed he wasn't playing well enough and was dropped despite costing £100mil.

If Donnarumma is shite for 12-18 months regardless of what he costs he will be dropped and Trafford will get his chance.

You are acting like Donnarumma coming in and playing well is a detriment to the club. Pep will play the better keeper. If that's not Trafford then maybe he just wasn't good enough anyway

Yep, I can see that happening.

United will throw everything at him to sign for them.

Simon Stone, United’s PR mouthpiece, stated on BBC Football, United weren’t interested in signing him, yesterday.

Watch this space.

I don’t believe for a second that they bought a player who played in the Championship last year and *promised* him the #1 spot for next season
I can’t see it, at all
No. They would have promised him a damn good chance the season after when Ederson leaves though, you can bet on that. And he likely thought he would have a decent chance this season too, with Ederson being a bit easily demotivated.

We’re talking about arguably the best goalkeeper in the world here… if Ederson’s head is elsewhere, why on earth would we not sign Donnarumma in a fire sale from PSG.

Incredibly exciting transfer this one.

For everyone saying he’s terrible at this and that…. It’s not stopped him winning the Champions League last year!

I dont think anyone is arguing that Donarumma is not an exceptional keeper...certainly not me....he is one of the best shot stoppers (if not the best) out there.

What I think some people have questions about is how this affects the back 4 especially at a point when our back 4 hasnt looked as strong as it has in previous seasons. (Walker gone and no right fullback that is any good Akanji decline, Stones absent a lot of the time, Ake absent a lot and potentially one young and while talented, very raw defender in Khusonov) - this coupled with the knowledge that Pep rarely wholesale changes the way he approaches the game. A huge part of his success over the last near decade has been his build up play from the back involving the keeper. (remember we got rid a of a decent shot stopper in Hart for a keeper who can play with his feet).

Some people believe that this playing out from the back has been sussed....it hasnt - teams have stopped pressing us (but this isnt being sussed out - its giving up on their part) because they cant as Ederson is too good. If we suddenly have a keeper who is known to be weak with his feet then teams will start to press again (we see it in cup games over the years when we have played the reserve keeper) - our build up goes to shit a little. Now couple that with the defensive issues we already have and the uncertainty around that back 4 -this rightfully brings into peoples minds questions of why we are bothering with this. Add in the Trafford factor and that just fuels it more. Add tot his the question of will a manager like Pep who is so rooted in certain factors of his play, going to make wholesale changes a week before the season? Ive seen people say Donarumma could be taught..yes possibly but not quickly and as others point out, nowhere near the level of Ederson (who is just a freak of nature in this aspect) - at least Trafford will have been brought up with our way of playing out fromthe back considering he came through our youth set up so even though he isnt as good as Ederson we already know he at least knows how to do it

Now there are a number of possible answers

1, Donarumma has suddenly become available (unexpectedly) - he is a world class keeper and top teams dont turn down the opportunity to buy world class players (especially at the prices being mentioned) so of course the club move for him.

2. Ederson has made it clear he wants to leave (now we dont know this for sure BUT the questions around this have been out there for quite a while -no smoke without fire etc along with what fans can see with their own eyes in the drop off (a little) in his attitude...this coupled with point 1 just adds reason.

3. We are being used by agents/media (Romano) to gain clickbait and interest from other clubs - the rumours around Ederson all window have just helped this and cockroaches like Romano are just using it to earn money and create a possible more interesting story (Donarumma chooses utd over city etc) - this is a well worn play book of the media creating division/antagonism between clubs and fans to drive their own agendas, create clicks on websites etc etc etc.

4. All 3 could be true at the same time.

Guess we will just have to wait and see....my feeling is we are being used as bait for utd....but could be very wrong..

We would not sign Donnaruma on 300k a week to lose his place in the team, unless he actually is shit. Trafford will have no chance even if Donnaruma is just competent.
It won't be 300k and Ederson has spent time on the bench when required.
Clubs buy potential. No matter how much of a sure thing it is, there remains an aspect of risk and disaster. And with that comes opportunity for others.
