Rip-off Britain

I was staying in the bahia grande hiphotel. Most probably bombed past you on E-scooter/bike :-)

We were a bit further up in the Playa del Moro. And yes those things were a pain. Lost count of the number of times I absent mindedly stepped on that red roadway bit and nearly got taken out!

Just been back to the uk & with the exchange rate it was far more expensive than Perth WA. When you consider cost of housing & wages, you guys are doing it tough. No wonder everyone’s angry.

Just to add, nowhere else in the world is there 17 different shades of tarmac on the pavement & wtf happened to the roads.
Can't remember the last time I paid for parking, maybe at the airport for a few days away.
And we don't pay to drop people off ;)

Park in town at the beach all day for free.
Petrol half price of UK as well.

I remember driving to Derwent reservoir for a walk last time I was over there, fucking pay and display in the middle of nowhere...the robbing barstards.

I don't blame people for getting pissed off .

Don’t listen to the moaning buggers on the internet, especially on here. Most people have forgotten how shit life could be in the seventies and eighties in the UK. The problem is, I reckon, is that we are like America now, a 2-tier population. Some with money and some without. The hard part is planning your life to ensure you always stay in the “with” section, you need a bit of luck (especially health wise to continue working) and good common sense.

Here’s things that people waste money on…

Takeaway food: it’s poor quality and bad for you. Even watching a KFC or McDonalds ad now makes me nauseous. Learn to make omelettes and soups.

£4 coffees: Buy a bag of coffee beans (£4, about 30 cups), a grinder (£10) and a cafetiere (£10). Tastes much better.

Gyms: unless you’re body building or the subscription includes a swimming pool &/or exercise classes these are pointless. Run in the park, get a second hand bike, cheap Aldi gym equipment.

Holidays: £2000 a week in Spain to sit on a beach? There’s tonnes of places in the UK to see for a fraction of that.

Cars: learn to live with one car in the household, not one each. Buses are cheap as chips to ride on.

Give me a heads up next time Aldi have some squat racks and a steam room in the middle aisle.

Yeah probably about right. My mate is earning 2k a week as a site manager through an agency. He was a painter and completed 4 year university course last year. Tradesman wages have gone up considerably last few years. There's lads onsite putting in the fire systems getting £500 a day.
Madness !

Didn't realise Lee Anderson was a City fan :)

Not sure I agree on holidays in UK costing a fraction of those in Spain. Once you factor in the rip off price of comparable accomodation in the UK, then the cost of eating out (as opposed to an all inclusive) there would be f-all difference i would hazard.

Birthday Cards.... Rip-off
Drinks in pubs......Rip-off
Fish and Chips.....Rip-off
Amusement parks Rip-off
Funerals........... Rip-off
Cremations....... Rip-off (word of warning to anyone organising one, they charge you for the coffin... A GREAT AMOUNT. But don't burn it. I wonder how many times those boxes get re-used and charged for every time. You effectively get charged a coffin rental fee for a few hours at 100s and 100s of pounds.. RIP-OFF
It can't be very healthy for the folk who have to go in them :-)

White goods never been cheaper for hours worked to buy them
TVs and electronic goods never been cheaper for hours worked to buy them

Stay at home and start turning things off 1 by 1. Every time you turn something off go and see how much slower the wheel on your electric metre moves.

Someone genuinely told me to do this when I was in printing 40 years ago. Obviously I`ve always had something better to do.

Nearly sixty years ago, I worked for British Printing Corp. I was a member of NATSOPA. What a racket.

After just spending 30 horrendous minutes in JD Sports and noticing the absolute minimum you need to spend for some half decent trainers is 100 quid! I got to wondering exactly how screwed our country is price wise. We all know the biggies, highest leccy/gas charges in Europe, Water (it should be this country's oil, thanks Thatcher) Council Tax, Petrol, Insurance, House prices.. obviously I could go on. But how about the relatively under the radar rip-offs that we all kinda accept?

The match..... rip-off
Cinema.......rip-off
TV package.....rip-off

To a degree I guess, again, they are fairly well known. But how about...

A pie. Greenhalches bakery £3.50! Rip-off
Small Bottle of Pepsi. £1.70.... Rip-off
A placcy bag at Tesco.... 40p. Rip-off
A car service.... £200/300 minum. Rip-off
Hair cut.... £10/20. Rip-off
New boiler. £3000/4000. Half a day's work. Rip-off
Windows cleaned, average semi... £8/10.... rip-off
New Roof. £8/10k. Rip-off
X Box Game. (Download) £60/70 Rip-off
Taxi to airport.... name your price... Rip-off
Train fare say Manc/London.... Rip-off
Chocolate bar £1/1.50 Rip-off

Obviously I could go on. Feel free to list more or indeed justify WHY a plasterer can earn more than a doctor! It obviously points to broader issues though. We don't say NOOOOO enough in this country. We don't get organised and plan to boycot set stores enough. We could have a monthly lottery and pull a Rip-off business out that hat and say This month, nobody is taking their business to Tesco or Halfords or Tui etc. Maybe theres other tactics we could use as the absolutely hammered consumer. Enough surely is enough?
Highlights, cut and blow - £75 and that’s not long hair

I was a member of the NGA. I was a member 16 years I always found the NGA very good. It was a union for time served printers. I cant speak for NATSOPA which was more a union for labourers and allied trades, bookbinders and the like.

Yes, I started as a general dogsbody, sweeping up and the like and progressed on to the production line as a ram bundler.
