7/7 bombing Anniversary

Yes that makes total sense re. the phone network. I remember under the main sound there was quite a deep almost thud like quality to the explosion too so I'm not surprised if you had concussion being that close.

It was not far off 4pm when we were let out which is why I think everywhere was so eerily quiet. The local Tesco had brought in a pallet of their sandwiches which I assume were for the emergency workers but someone was considerate enough to send some up to the people upstairs, weird what strange details you remember.

4? Blimey, we gave up at about 1.

The trouble with that hotel is where to go from there - Russell Square is behind it and no chance of going that way, the main north-south road would have been closed, and north is Kings Cross. All the emergency traffic would have been in the way. It makes me think you were kept in because there wasn't an easy way out without knowing the backstreets.

A colleague had just stepped out of the front door 20-30 yards up the road and got hit by a small piece of glass. A second or two before that, and it would have been much worse for those not on the bus. Of course, the bus shouldn't really have been there, it should have gone to Kings Cross, but was a bit delayed and the earlier explosions had turned it south at Euston.

Quite possibly, I don't really remember anyone complaining much tbh. You've reminded me that back then I still carried a mini London A-Z in my laptop bag as my geography of the capital was never great.

Just watched the Netflix documentary, the firearms & surveillance team come across pretty badly around the De Menezes shooting, I realise tensions would have been extremely high but they handled that one so poorly.
