I’m uncomfortable with the impact on the playing style that not having Ederson will mean.

I was slightly uncomfortable, but excited, about the prospect of Trafford trying to get near to replicating Ederson’s impact on play and taking pressure off the team.

If it’s Donnarumma, I am really uncomfortable and don’t see how that works without drastically altering the successful formula.

Make no mistake, Ederson’s shot saving has been questionable at times (it’s also been very good at times) but he has been absolutely crucial to the way this team plays at all times, due to his freakish aviilty with his feet.

He is, by far, the best keeper in the history of football at this aspect of the game; head and shoulders above every other top keeper.

Replacing that is a huge challenge and doing it with a keeper who is being booted for not being able to do it elsewhere is a concern.

It's called transition mate

PSG are similar in style to City, they don't use route 1 but play from the back. I'd say Donnarumma helped them big time vs some of the best pressing teams in the world in Liverpool and Arsenal.

I don’t disagree but Enrique has judged him not up to the job. That has to be a concern when he is coming here to replace the best ever at that aspect (an aspect which is non negotiable to Pep’s philosophy).

I can’t be the only one itching for us to get Haaland involved more quickly sometimes. I know Ederson did every so often but the number of times the quick ball to him was on and missed was disheartening. You could see Haalands shoulders drop when all the space he was in suddenly meant nothing.

If Donnarumma means we mix it up a bit more I’m all for it.

Note: I am not Big Sam or advocating his methods.

We don't know the reasons, might be related to personal or money issues. IF we want him to replace Eddie, it's because we see that his world class saves offset his potential mistakes.

I think Eddie could do that easily but Pep tells him not to. His long kicking is unreal. I don’t think Pep allows/encourages it AND imho Haaland’s hold up play is shite. He doesn’t want to fight a CB for a ball in the air. I totally agree we need to get him involved quicker but think that’s about getting the ball in front of him to run onto and that’s hard when teams sit so deep against us.

Were you uncomfortable when we signed Haaland? Adapt and evolve or you’ll be left behind.

100% this.

Weve been sussed to an extent over the last 2 seasons.
Other coaches started doing what pep was known for better. We became slow and boring to watch

I see football snobbery all through football ages, i coach my sons u11 team and you want to hear the guff that comes out of some coaches mouths.

Theres nothing wrong , every now and then, going direct if its on
Even at u11s you hear the excitement from parents when a break like that is on

So as regards to ederson… its been fun. Youve been brilliant, one of the best. Ill be sad to see you go. Up there with joe corrigan and joe hart for me. But maybe now being good with your feet isnt JUST what its all about.

Im hoping pep linders (sp) will have a hige influence on a more direct style because watching our immobile midfield do 25 5 yard passes and going backwards has had me bored to tears

Said yesterday, it’s not going to get completed before the weekend so he would be training as normal as we will have him in the squad for Saturday, start or not.

Next week will be telling, as Pep won’t give anything away in his press conference, and I’d certainly not be surprised if Eddie starts tomorrow too.

Could there be a chance that this coming season we play out from the back less?

Teams have stopped pressing us, and we are slow enough to build as it is. Who knows?

I had a look at Donnaruma’s distribution stats compared to his replacement, and they were about equal ratio wise at a glance, with lower numbers for him but I’d expect that in a more dominant team.

He is a goalkeeper not a central midfielder. Don't lose perspective.

What concerns me a little about City at the moment is that the season is about to start and we have a lot of spinning plates around our ears.

wonder if the Wolves game is a farewell game for Ederson. if it is he leaves as a legend so that makes is near impossible Trafford starting tomorrow.
