It's Quiet the £250m return

Think we may sign a gk assuming Ortega and ederson leave. But if savinho goes I don’t feel we replace him and instead go with what we have.

Pep wants a smaller squad.

The irony is that it’s unhealthy when they are all healthy but unhealthy when they are all unhealthy. If Rodri, Kovacic, and one of the central defenders break down again, which is quite feasible, we lose someone younger to injury, and bid adieu to Marmoush and Ait-Nouri to AFCON, then the ‘vibe’ might be none the groovier.

That was the “Pep message” when he said some people have to accept they aren’t getting minutes. Pep has commented again after the game saying some difficult chats need to be had and getting agents to get players out of the club. Ake didn’t get on pitch either so the 3 who didn’t are definitely options for leaving.

What spoke volumes is the guy that Pep normally brings on for control, Gundo didn't come on instead he picked Cherki even said in Peps post comments about Cherki's ability. For Pep to have that amount of confidence in Cherki to see a game out and control the flow of the game allowed to go anywhere he was in midfield , up front on the wing . Only special players are allowed to do that with Pep.

Shows how much Pep rates his ability.

Also glad Pep brought Khusa on too, that will have meant a lot for his confidence as well. Even though it was only 10/15 mins it was a good sign.

On another note, Khusa looked like he’d grown and bulked up as well, looked a far bigger unit that I remembered.

A special talent, for sure.
Training must contain a few jaw-dropping moments.

Whereas I'm sure Pep rates Cherki , I'm not convinced that substitution said much. If we were 1-0 up with 30 minutes left I might agree, as it was we were 3-0 up and the game was won.I suspect he'd be happy sending on anyone bar Kalvin Phillips in that situation. Sending on a new signing wasn't a great surprise.

I did think sending him on to play up front in place of Haaland probably shows that you won't see much of Cherki as an 8. Definitely looking like it'll be 4-2-3-1 this year.

I think yesterday just simplified how football strategies work.

Why stress yourselves over frustrating players waiting for them to click into gear.

Just sign better players.

Just look at that midfield trio with Reinjders Nico G and OR - legs for days. Physically imposing. They were doing the simple stuff amazingly.

Having the willingness to try make something and happen and the legs to run.

Literally night and day from Gundo Kova Bernardo midfield trio

This is why I don’t understand why some people get so attached to players. If a player isn’t playing at a high standard just sell them and replace them with a better player. Just look at Cherki on his debut. Some players just get it

We were 3-0 up, in total control, with about 10 minutes left.

Pep could’ve taken a player off and not replaced him and we’d have still seen the game out.

Your conclusion is absolutely mental mate.

The problem isn’t using the experienced players, it’s when Pep using them all together we have issues. I thought Bernardo was brilliant yesterday

Anything happening? Hope we get Donnarumma, Rodrygo and another full back. Not sure where squad is up to . Don’t think Macca going changes anything, assuming Eddy would have to go for Donna to come in and same with Sav and Rod.. so what else needs to happen?

I think Ederson, Ortega, Gundogan. Savinho and Akanji all leave mate before the window closes with Donnarumma and Rodrygo coming in. Mcatee already gone as well so squad size shrinking

So looking at today's lineup

3 in midfield
Nico Bernardo and Reijnders

And the 2 wingers Bobb and Doku

I'm sure Cherki will come on and it will be interesting to see who he replaces.

But the bottom line is we have plenty of wide players without Savinho
when you wrote that i bet you didn't think cherki would be subbed on for big erl :)

I guess you think Donnarumma is on his way then.
I suspect you are correct: I cannot see professionals of their standing being accepting of sitting at home on match days. I don't like that thought, but I have a feeling that Viana and Pep have chosen, together, the players who are a part of the future, and the move is towards the younger players in the squad, exemplified by sub-choices in yesterday's game. I wonder if those choices would have been different in a tight match though.

Agreed mate. Khusanov and O’Reilly coming on I think cemented the younger players going forward now, same with Gonzalez starting? I think it’s far to say Ederson will be gone and we need two top keepers? Ortega has seemingly been told he can go as well so 5-6 out and 2 in imo. May Kovacic or even Nunes to Saudi after the window closes

If Ederson and Ortega go, then we will need at least one keeper. If there is a genuine shift towards the academy, then it is possible that the second choice, for cup games, becomes one of the young ones. I do not think it is likely though as the EDS guys are all in their teens. I think Gonzalez starting was definitely a sign of a shift, though nothing has to be set in stone.

@tolmie's hairdoo mentioned the other day that if Ederson and Savinho go then Donnarumma and Rodrygo are coming in to replace them two. Echeverri and Nypan will go on loan and Reis has already gone but interestingly can be instantly called back if we need him.

Im all for Akanji leaving because I think it is time, but no links at all make it seem unlikely?

Some reports about Gundogan but that also feel difficult at the moment
