Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

Savinho was at his best as a left winger at Girona. With Doku out of form, if Savinho stays, he should play on the left ahead of Doku, with Bobb on the right. We saw a glimpse of his thunder shot from the left at the CWC, and in his natural position his form could improve.

Do we still need to move an NHG if ortega and akanji go, will eche on loan? I've lost track!

For me he's still a guy I'd like to see come on in the biggest games, take control and see it out.

Feel like Rico, Nico O and Nico G will benefit a lot too from his mentoring.

We’re currently sitting at three over, so once Echeverri’s deal goes through, we need to move on another two players.

Ortega and Akanji would give us that, bringing us to 17 on the non-HG list.

Then it’s one in one out if either Eddie or Savinho do leave the Club.

If we had any designs on a non-HG right back (which we seem to have completely given up on, bizarrely), then we would need to move another player on to create the space - and Gundo seems like the only likely option for that slot.

As of now, it looks like it is.

I think if it is to be done it will have to be this week.

Not a chance do City sell Savinho and we are left with a week to negotiate a deal with Rodrygo, of which I don't even think we have spoke to Real Madrid yet, otherwise it would be all over the Madrid press.

That Rodrygo deal will not be as seamless as some think. They will want to have us over a barrel.
See where you are coming from.
Waiting for someone to truly kill it, apart from Balague.

Feels like there is politics at play here which go beyond Savinho as a player. Definitely some animosity between the clubs

Doesn’t help we’re playing them at weekend either

Bad blood between City and Levy who they believe is a big driver behind the 115 charges Pep even named checked him in a press conference and he was an arse in the Harry Kane saga

Good.

I hope we either don’t sell to the cunts or rinse them for every shekel…..

He had, in one game out of 30 or so.

Again, 4 goals/assists in 18 league games, one from a pen, is poor. That's Savinho's current level, or actually worse, if we count goal involvements per 90.
So Palmer's brace in CWC Final v PSG is a mere bag of shells? Of course that would be no problema for Savinho...

Soriano has a responsibility to protect our assets long term and potentially avoid Pep making short-term decisions. Don't want to get too "get van persie in and we're guaranteed to win it this year!", as a historical precedent.

Be funny if after all the "we don't need project players" in this thread our actual CEO thinks we do.
We actually don't need too many and definitely not playing regularly for us when they are not yet up to the required standard. You won't find me beefing about Gvardiol or Cherki or Bobb playing regularly. But Savinho, Doku, Rico, and Nico O. would not be sniffing the field on our better sides.

Some reports are saying the Savinho to Spuds deal is dead. Others that Spuds are preparing a third & final bid after their second €60m bid was rejected. Apparently City value Savinho at £70m.

Other reports state Savinho wants regular football in this WC season, & is interested in achieving that with Spuds.

However, City are reported as saying they won't consider any bids for Savinho unless our valuation is met, but more importantly, Savinho would have to tell the club he wants to leave, or put in a transfer request.

Apparently he's done neither, as he doesn't want to burn his City bridges. Transfer tactics will probably mean that even if the deal was still alive, it wouldn't happen until after we play Spuds on Saturday.

As for Rodrygo, some reports are saying personal terms with City 'won't be an issue' & he wants a move to City this window. However, an official move for Rodrygo will only proceed if Savinho moves to Spuds.

Today there are reports saying Rodrygo's in Alonso's plans for the season ahead, & that he hasn't actually asked to leave.

The truth with all the above probably lies somewhere in the middle...

I wouldn’t say he’s a piece of shit but he is disposable now time waits for no man we’ve let bigger and better players go that may have been able to do a job for us. There’s no sentiment in football

Don’t forget he already fucked us off cause we didn’t offer what he wanted
You're wasting your breath. Has a very niche view on proceedings.

How can you say Doku is oof form. We have played one game he was ok. He was good in the CWC and the tail end of last season.

I really think he has way more value than ‘disposable.’ In fact that sounds pretty disrespectful about a quality footballer. He is currently doing his badges etc I understand. He is a player with immense gravitas, younger will player look up to him and aspire to achieve what he’s already accomplished.
Disposable? That the last thing he is. He’s also a player who we can still rely upon and can use..

We don't know.

Origi scored a brace against Messi's Barcelona for a 4:0 Liverpool win. I'd say Savinho is better than him.

To be fair, Palmer performs impressively in finals. But there's no denying he's been largely poor in the league since January. Very poor for a top player.

Some players have exceptional purple patches. It's not set in stone that Palmer, specifically, will start scoring/assisting a goal per game again. Might do it or might not.

I reckon Savinho can't get worse than he was last season. That's his bottom level in terms of goals/assists.
Palmer has given some evidence he is a big match player with goals in finals. A trait not to be dismissed lightly.

There's other players out there not called Rodrygo if the Idea is to sell our second choice right winger to reinvest in a first choice left winger. Eze or the lad from Monaco might be cheaper options in terms of wages.

I was easy on keeping him a couple of weeks ago, I do think he has a lot of promise, but I sense he's had his head turned and I think we're just going to end up with a sulky fucker who we'll have to sell for less at the end of the season anyway.
Do you have someone in mind?

I think he meant 'expendable' rather than disposable. No one's doubting Gundog's quality, but he represents our past, not our future.

For that reason plus his advancing age & fading legs, many fans (me included) would rather see Gundog moved on & return in a coaching/apprentice manager role next season.

It's a separate argument over whether we'd be better off keeping Ilkay around this season with minutes here & there, because he could mentor the youngsters coming through. I absolutely agree with this, however we have non-HG limitations to consider.

I suppose it's why we pay Pep, Hugo & Ferran the big bucks to make these heart-rending, but crucial decisions. But we can't allow sentiment to get in the way of what's best for City now & in the future?

It wasn't lost on many that Pep chose O'Reilly to see out the game against Wolves, leaving Gundog on the bench. If we had the squad places available, I wouldn't be arsed as Ilkay would get minutes throughout a hectic season anyway, but we don't.

There's some tough decisions ahead of us over the next two weeks.

Even if we do sell savio we won't sign rodrygo. We r not gonna drop £80m on another foreign player that doesn't really improve any of the forward positions and could hamper the development of younger players coming through that will be HG.

Well that so called billionaire is responsible for 115-130 of problems for City.. not someone else.

What's best for the club isn't likely to be helping him out to create even more problems for City!

Don't gloss over that fact!
Fair point! I actually didn’t know that bald bastard was so integral to the 115.

Can’t stand him but still think Savio should go and Rodrygo come in!

So who do you think we can realistically get rid of instead of him considering we have to get rid of a non homegrown player
