Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

It will certainly sting if he outperforms Rodrygo after paying 20m euros more.
Still wouldn't necessarily make selling Savinho a mistake (if we do and I personally hope we don't).

If Savinho performs well at Spurs it doesn't mean that he would have produced the same if he had stayed with us. Different styles of play, different positions, facing different defensive set-ups etc.

Same with Palmer. I'm not totally convinced that he would have become the star that he has if he had stayed with us.

Rodrygo performing badly would make his transfer a mistake of course.

Plus, it's not clear that Rodrygo would be a better player while earning 4-5 times what Savinho currently gets.

Pep can easily bench Savinho to play Cherki and Foden. Won't be that easy to bench Rodrygo, and Marmoush wants to play as well...
And Doku and Bobb.
Exactly this. We're storing up problems for ourselves if we sign a so called WC star from Madrid who has to play but isn't better than what we already have.

Of course clubs make mistakes, every side in the world makes them and no club will ever have a 100% success rate. I’m replying to the forum wind up who has been posting the same nonsense for the past week or so about stats.

If Pep wants Rodrygo and we have the funds we should trust him. If Savinho is happy to go and an acceptable bid is made we should let him go. The fact he even wants to leave us for Spurs should be a big red flag but that’s just my opinion.

The way some go on about stats on this forum they’d want David Silva sold. Goals and assists don’t mean everything, I saw enough of Savinho last season to know he won’t make it with us long term.

His defensive work rate and half arsed press just doesn’t cut it and he’s not so good we can accommodate him like we do Haaland. He’ll probably thrive at Spurs where he has more space to run into but that’s why he’ll cost £70m.
To precis, clubs make mistakes, Savinho is such a mistake, but we should trust Pep. Your commentary is flawed.

If I was a Spurs fan and knowing we had lost out on Eze I would be truly pissed off if I was told we were buying Savinho
as some form of sop to the fans to show we really mean business . Chalk and Cheese

I really want to see more of Cherki, Marmoush, Bobb and Foden. Savio I can take or leave (personally I hope he stays as he clearly has talent but needs to work on his mental attitude), Rodrigo does nothing for me and I really don’t want to block the others mentioned

The Rodrigo transfer looks like a more hype than substance signing and an expensive commitment imo.

I think they were after both. They'd probably still be in the market for an Eze type player.

Let’s be honest, Doku, Bobb and Savinho are completely unproven as regular starters for a team with the objectives of winning the PL and CL.

The end product of Doku and Savinho currently leaves A LOT to be desired and Bobb is an unknown quantity due to his leg break last year - although we’ve seen good flashes from him.

This idea that Rodrygo isn’t currently better than any of them though right now is just hard to believe when he’s only 24 and had been a regular at Real until Mbappe signed. This was a team that was winning CL finals.

This time last season we sold Alvarez expecting a top line replacement like Osimhen. A replacement never arrived, and we went into the season with just Erling up front. We have cover for Savinho, but would much prefer to keep him than let him go and not have a replacement.

How does Savinho fulfil his potential without games?
He doesn't, which is why I think he ultimately will be moved on. I have to say I have far less of a problem with footballers being desperate to play and articulating that to the manager than most on here. Yes, a move to Spurs may seem like a step down, but they're hardly Accrington Stanley, and if he gets to play regularly in the build up to a world cup then I understand how that can be an acceptable compromise from his point of view. Certainly worked out well for Palmer.

Not just that I feel he blocks the progress of players like Oscar Bobb and i also don’t want someone who brings the attitude of that stinking club to our club. By and large the players we recruit have good personalities and attitudes, even Kalvin is a really nice bloke. Maybe Savio has a few question marks but Rodrigo may have more, and he will cost more and be on much higher wages. I also think Savio has the talent to have a lot more room for value appreciation than Rodrigo

Well, if it's true, I think we will sell him for 80 million euros. It's just a question of when we will hear any concrete developments on the deal.

My metric is “will we finish above spurs” and “will we win more trophies than them”.

Also for the record I think even if we sell Sav there’s no guarantee that we’ll buy Rodrygo.

Oscar Bobb will outperform Savinho anyway imo. 80 million is ludicrous money for a guy who scored one league goal as a forward.

Why is everyone panicing. Take £80 mill all day. People worrying what if he becomes a great player after we sell him. Who cares, we will just replace him with another great player. At this moment 80 is too good an offer to turn down
For £70m+ he should already be a great player. If we were offering that money to Spurs based on what we saw last season, I would think we had lost the fucking plot. He might go on to do special things, but he’s miles away from that at the moment.

Your view is based more on impressions than facts.

Minutes per goal/assist in the league:

Rodrygo

22/23 140
23/24 156
24/25 176

That's worse than Doku.

Doku plays fewer minutes than Rodrygo, his league stats per 90 are better than Rodrygo's.

Savinho, aged 19, had 19 goals/assists in La Ligs. Rodrygo's record is 17...

If Pep wants Rodrygo, I don't mind at all. But on the face of it, it's not certain he is the improvement some expect.
