Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

Leaving aside the behaviour news which if true is a massive red flag, i have seen enough of Savio falling over after dribbling into an impossible position to know he needs a whole lot of coaching.

He is 21 so it’s clubs scouts who can predict whether he becomes the new Sterling/Mahrez/Salah or remains the Troare/townsend type.
I am still waiting for Jesus to become the next Aguero and Patrick Roberts the new Ribery.
And Cole Palmer the next Cold sh.... Oh! Bad example :)

Jesus, if we can get £70mil for Savinho we should take it. Means we could likely get Rodrygo for a net spend of £15-£20mil which would be insanely good business.

Savinho was not a free signing.

Savinho was not a free signing.

And the increased wages is swallowing what we will have made on him.

My opinion is changing by the hour on this one.

For most of yesterday I felt we had to sell Savinho for that money and Rodrygo, with his CL experience and excellent track record, would be a very good player for us with a lot of potential to still improve at 24.

Today I'm more of the opinion that we should keep Savinho. He's younger, we don't know what his ceiling might be and with our new coaches clearly looking to see more aggressive attacking play he's likely to thrive.

The question mark I have over Savinho is whether he will ever cope with the physicality of the PL. It was an issue I felt Jesus had, and why he was so much better when more protected in the CL. But those question marks exist with Rodrygo too.

Savinho's had his year adapting to the PL. I don't think we should call it quits on him. This season looks set up for him to shine. If he doesn't then whilst we might not get the same money, there will still be a deal we can do.

My feelings and thoughs here have been consistent all along.

I put 'no' in the poll above. I have zero issue with Savinho being sold for good money and won't be disappointed if the club can get an offer that makes it worthwhile.

But I'd prefer if we kept him. Over Rodrygo. If he is sold, I'd prefer him being replaces with someone other than Rodrygo, lesser known/proven, cheaper. Rodrygo seems a lazy option for me. Someone like Dibling, or another young winger.

Not replacing Sav at all is the only thing that would maybe somewhat concern me. I don’t think that affects Bobb's expected progress, and I think people throwing Mukasa's name, who habe likely never heard of him before Pallermo, are lost.

Agreed. We should only be selling and replacing if it's a clear upgrade, otherwise it's just pointless.

Id replace Savinho with Rodrygo though, I do think he's better.

FWIW I do too. But just not at that price!

Though I suspect Spurs are saying the same about Savinho.

Why is a player a coward for wanting out? I don't get it.

I expect Savio and others who aren't guaranteed starting spots to consider all their options.

Capito wanted out for 4 years, yet here he is with the band.

Evaluating all your options is a good thing... For club and players!!!

He will triple his wages which is also a big pull

Being curious about other offers is natural. Especially if they'll make you the face of the team and give you the guaranteed minutes to make a world cup squad.

Refusing to play, handing in transfer requests, intentionally damaging your value is out of order. Tbf transfer requests are the proper way to do it but always feels a bit like a slap in the face.

I'm not sure any City player has really left under that bad a cloud in years. Players seem to usually respect our stance that if you can generate an acceptable offer you an go - which incentivises the players to generate those reasonable offers. I don't think we'd keep him against his will, which suggests as we knocked back a few bids we don't see much problem with him staying.

Exactly

But Savio did none of this hence why im confused.

Same with every player, if another club can meet their valuation and the player wants to go, then its "thank you for your services."

I actually like that philosophy.

Apparently, he hasn't asked for a move or put in a transfer request. He's merely considering the proposal without burning bridges with City...
These days players never put in a transfer request. He wants to go, we're not standing on his way, but Spurs are not close to matching the valuation, its as simple as that.

Nobody at City is guaranteed anything, Savio got lots of game time, if he wants to be at a club where he doesnt need to fight to play more than that's not the mentality we need.

You seem convinced Savio has done something behind the scenes that means he can't come back. Is that right mate?
He's put a lot of effort into exhibiting discontent - as far back as the CWC - I think it will be a case of persistence rewarded with Spurs over the injury barrel and Rodrygo waiting in the wings.
