82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

That result today isn’t on him let’s be clear. But I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, and loads on here have said it a million times.
We aren’t winning a thing with Rico at right back consistently.

He’s a young lad, City through and through, obviously has quality and wouldn’t be anywhere near our squad if he didn’t. But he’s simply just not got the physical traits to excel at fullback in a team that sets up like we do currently. Nunes ain’t the answer either but he should have started today and is a damn sight better than Lewis in that position I’ll stand by that.

Porro and Spence are nowt special as a full back pairing but outclassed us by miles today. I like Ait Nouri but still think full back is our massive Achilles heel

Back to full scapegoat mode after the brief hiatus last week. All I'll say is, he wasn't on his own out there.
No he wasnt but this excuse for him cant keep being trotted out....

Others were bad and they are being discussed as well

this is the Rico Lewis thread where posters comment on him....

Today and repeatedly he is the weakest player on the pitch...again and again

He cant defend
He loses the ball in the mid third and attacking third causing breakaways - we saw it last year
He tries to cut out a cross with the wrong foot and misses it leading to a goal - we saw that last year
He gets caught wrong side of the attacker and doest have the pace to recover - we saw that last year
He cant defend the back post - we saw it last year
He isnt creative when stepping into midfield
His passing is average at best]
Last year he was dropped for Nunes (which says it all!)

This isnt scapegoating...these are all facts.

I was shocked when forest came in for him - we should have bitten their hands off

Would we sign Rico if he was at Forest or Burnley? Probably not. The main reason he's here is that he's a local lad from the academy. Nothing wrong with that if he wasn’t starting more games than necessary.

Was starting games in 22/23, Pep dropped him after Spurs away in February and he barely played after that.

Was starting games in 23/24, barely played in the final months.

Was starting at RB last season before Pep discovered Nunes was better there.

He might become a top player, but he isn't one. Nunes isn't either, but he's better at RB.

Maybe we consider a new RB and want to sell Nunes? That might explain what's happening.

Hard to understand what Pep hoped for. We saw against PSG Spurs are a very physical side with a great press.

Playing Rico against them asking him to roam in midfield when we had the ball made it really easy for them.

So that’s the main reason. Respectably that’s a load of rubbish. Pep clearly thinks he’s good enough

I’m sick of these so call city fans (not you) jumping to criticise our own player

He won’t.

Rico has effectively had a clean run at a position which his ability doesn’t merit and yet, he still looks miles off it. His age needs to stop being used as his get-out-of-jail free card. The guy has been playing for years, he probably has more top-flight appearances than many players 3 or 4 years older than him and he is a full England international. He shouldn’t look this far out of his depth with his CV.

If he was any good, Nunes would be zero competition for the position. I grew to like Nunes more and more last season but he isn’t a RB and I can’t imagine it was ever in plan that he would become one. The current situation should be an absolute piece of piss for Lewis and yet most want Nunes starting ahead of him. If we ever actually sign a RB, Lewis is finished. It’s incredible he’s managed to hoodwink so many fans as well as the club into offering a new deal. Beggars belief.

Nobody can say with any certainty, but do you honestly think we'd be willing to sign Rico if he was at another club? For which position? RB, CM, AM?

Hopefully he becomes a top player. Still only 20.

First goal today prime example and again not totally on him.

But lost count of the amount of times over the last few seasons when he’s been in at right back for us where a team switches the play from his side, get forward and then crosses it back post. He’s literally ALWAYS miles behind his man. His defensive awareness and pace to get back are just not good enough.

I love the lad but he’s not the guy to play there

If he was at the rags we’d be laughing our bollocks off, I’m sure he’s a nice lad but he isn’t good enough, simple as that, and we currently aren’t good enough to carry a player every game.
Do the lad a favour and take him out and move him on loan , giving him a new contract has to be questioned.
