1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

Ederson seems to have been afforded the flexibility to judge when it is best to play out from the back or when to lump it

I wonder whether Trafford should be afforded the same.

Teams will press when he has the ball (more so after today) and other than him massively improving his ability to play out from the back, I’d suggest the next best option is to allow him to lump it now and again and keep teams guessing whether to commits players to press or not

Trafford is an outstanding prospect.
He made a mistake and looked vulnerable when pressed.
Offer unqualified support while he is with us and he will deliver; he is too good not to.
Just seen the highlights and some decent saves but the very obvious error. Ederson should still be number one if he stays and Trafford in the cups etc

People are fixated on the wrong thing here. The goal was a colossal fuck up, just a horrific pass to make but you can chalk up mistakes and move on.

The bigger issue was how poor his general distribution and sweeping was. The players infront of him know he isn't Ederson and don't look anywhere near as comfortable playing it back to him, it's breeding reluctance and second guessing from those infront of him which is having a negativr impact on our build up. Even when he launched it, it was to absolutely nobody within 15 yards of the ball. Then his sweeping was horrendous and probably the worst part of his display. Kept deciding to come out after an intial delay by which time it was already too late and nothing but blind luck saved further blushes.

Many seem to think the solution is to go get Donnarumma, it's not, he is even worse at all the problem areas Trafford experineced today, he isnt going to solve anything. Ederson is the only solution, otherwise you have to rip up the entire gameplan and build a new one around what you have and stop asking them to do something they're incapable of doing.

Sadly, pep has been doing the exact same thing with his outfield players over the last 12 months and that's why we had last season. I'm not convinced he isnt going to simply continue to ask people incapable of doing what he wants to do what he wants.
Yes, this is exactly. I can live with the mistake but it was everything else that was wrong. Id even say, he should have done better with the first goal(both him and lewis), granted it was hit with pace but it was practically straight at him.

Lots of us here predicted something like this when we were linked to him, its hugeely disappointing. Donnarumma isnt the answer either.

Depends on the question. I want Eddie to stay but it seems unlikely. Therefore if the question is Donnarumma or Trafford? The answer is 100% Donnarumma.

Ederson has made that type of mistake several times during his time here, even against spurs if I remember rightly. Ederson wouldn’t have saved the first nor would he have made them good saves near the end that Traff did. My worry with Trafford was misjudging his rushes out on more than one occasion, again Ederson does this a lot and cost us a few goals last year doing that but you don’t like to see it.

Our approach to defending doesn’t help whoever is between the sticks, if you leave yourself that open and concede the exact same chances and goals then even Donna may struggle to look good. Trafford had a stinker today and the Ederson happy clappers were ready to pounce, instead of supporting their team.

That's really constructive. Well done
Thought that when fans were getting on his back whilst he had the ball at his feet about to distribute it. How is giving him shit going to make him perform better? He's a good shot stopper, just needs more work on passing it out and with his kicking.

Just hacked into City's computers (no I'm not a scouser) the team talk apparently said, you know the young goalie, the one we're playing @the expense of the highly decorated Brazilian... Yea him... Whatever you do make sure to put him under undue pressure @every opportunity , give him @least 6 hospital passes & destroy his confidence.
Mission accomplished

The whole back 5 didn’t look comfortable today playing out from the back. After watching that teams will be after us and I think we need to be more direct.
If we change system then I’m happy to stick with Trafford. Otherwise it’s back to Eddy. The Italian will fare no better
