Seen this Mahrez comparison at 21 thing said a couple of times now by different posters. All that says to me is at 21 Mahrez like Savinho would not have been good enough to play for City. It took Mahrez another 4/5 years to become an elite player and good enough. We haven't got 4/5 years to hope Savinho develops into a proper player. I couldn't care less about his season in Girona. He was was crap last season for us. A little show pony who got kicked out of games. That coupled with the fact he seemingly wants the move, shift him on.

Except for Gonzalez, who is slowly becoming very good and the perfect Rodri back up, much more than Baleba would be. Think as this team grows together and understands each other, which they will Gonzalez will be integral.

They would, but that is not all we need.
I think we need to look at combinations - Stones with Khus, for example, gives us brains AND physical power. Lewis with Khus gives us control of the midfield with the speed to cover.
On the left, Gvardiol and Ait-Nouri gives us brilliant attacking versatility, but would need a brick wall of a right-sided defender to cover for that.

I don't want to overthink it?

Khusanov should be the starting right back and has all the attributes people claim the role required themselves days.

Speed, physicality, etc.

Same reason O'Reilly bailed us out last season on the opposite flank.

Difference being, AK is actually a natural defender.

Far too extreme a reaction and an unrealistic approach in the modern game. If we ONLY buy finished articles we will put ourselves in financial peril. We will also deprive fans of one of the joys of football - watching young players emerge.

There is a compromise, which is where we are heading - some absolute worldies alongside some world-class talents yet to fully develop.

But not a natural RB.
TBH, I am not bothered about the latter because I am very happy to continue to allow the right back to invert. Others are not, which changes the whole pattern of play.
BUT, if you do allow what we have been doing then you do need to have cover. When Stones joined the midfield, Walker covered. If Lewis joins the midfield, then a pacy CB needs to be the cover.
