Will we win the league this season?

Nothing is obvious after two games
It's now obvious we haven't changed since last season, it's obvious how to beat us, Thomas Frank has shown every top 10 team who have the players to execute it.
It's obvious Pep still intends to play a high defensive line with slow defenders who struggle to get back.

Again it’s two games…Pep has evolved within a season before. We weren’t playing with four Centre-backs at the start of the treble season. He has a bunch of new players he is trying to learn.

Personally I’ve resigned myself to the fact we’re not going to win the league. It’s going to make the results like Saturday more tolerable. They’ll be a few more of those especially against the top 6. Peps lost Kev, one of our big game players, has to guide Rodri back safely and has some new players to work with including an experienced goalkeeper. It’s not all doom and gloom because we know from Pep that his teams are like fine wine they get better with time!

Until 12/13 games have been played or a third of the season, I am withholding judgement.

No team in this league looks outstanding and all have glaring flaws.

The fact that Spurs look the best team thus far tells you all you need to know about the league right now.

One thing that surprised me was finding out that the City game was the 9th match Spurs have played since coming back for pre-season, whereas that was our 3rd after 4/5 week lay off post CWC.

You give any team a 5/6 game head start in this league and it will show in the fitness.

Not till we stop conceding the same goal every week.
Need a settled back 4.We need a world class winger.
We also need to accept that this is a new team that needs time to get to know each other.
Enjoy the ride Blues.
We have been through worse.

That's my point mate, it's not 2 games it's been the same since the middle of last season. And against AL Hilal , it's many games.
We just keep getting mugged.
Our defence can't defend against fast breaks because of our high line but Pep will not change his tactics, even though we have no superfast right back.

For me this season will be a slight uptick on last season. I don’t see how bringing Rodri back doesn’t have a real positive impact. I am slightly worried that if he misses more games and one of the other midfielders gets injured we may be faced with a top 4 battle. Liverpool and Arsenal are better than us in every element of their squads and will be top 2 without a shadow of a doubt. Chelsea have great depth and players in every position and could be really strong if they can get a coherent team. I think we may be helped by Newcastle and spurs playing in Europe and maybe not having the depth for both competitions. I have a slight worry that this or next season will be the one we miss CL and that’s when things could become very very messy.

Early days but, based on last season, the CWC and our 2 league games this year, this is how I see it. We have had fundamental issues which I'm not seeing being addressed and there are at least 3 regular starters that I don't think would look out of place in united's team but would never get into Liverpool or Arsenal's starting XI.

We will look lijke wengers arsenal in his last 5 or 6 years. Make sure you beat all the sides from 6th place down sacrifice cups..scrape cl spot. Difference is there about 9 fast aggressive sides who, atm can beat us easily.

Its the definition of insanity..repeat constant nistakes. It made Trafford so nervous in his first home game back with us. He ended up charging out to try and compensate. Mind you if we do sit deeper and dont attack the ball and let bounce thats even worse!. Why havent we purchased a proper commanding CH...Andy Morrison type..why can't we develop a proper Tommy Booth type. The academy should be set up to develop defenders as that is easier to do. And tgen buy attacking players.

KDB was a big player in our squad but he had become ineffective.

I think we've added a top player in Reijnders but I am not sure about Nico and Cherki. I don't know how much significance to place on the Spurs game. We played a really bad game and it wasn't helped by Trafford. Not only did he make a critical mistake but his distribution was awful. There was no urgency in his game. In hindsight, I think he must have been terrified about repeating the error. He must be replaced.

Of course he won't change this. Every progressive side plays in this manner. I don't want City to play any other way.

Have you thought that the absence of our defensive midfielders is significant?

For me it's not the high line that's the issue, it's the complete lack of recovery pace in it. We used to have Walker who was so quick that he could basically shut down attacks all over the right hand side of the pitch. On Saturday the back four ended up being Lewis who was inverting, Stones, Dias and Ake. It's a very slow back four and the spaces were there to be hit by Spurs all game long.

We're now playing even higher up the pitch but with a much slower back four. It's why people are crying out for Khusanov in there. I do agree about Rodri, but we've had him out for almost an entire year now.

We won't me clear cut chances (Haaland & Marmoush) and be denied a blatant penalty every week.

At least I hope.

I'd go even further back than that.

Tottenham's first goal on Saturday was a carbon copy of the Wolves goal at Molineux last season or Liverpool's first at Anfield, and even Everton's equaliser at Christmas
Reverse diagonal pass behind our left hand side and everything opening up in the middle.

It was less of a problem when Rodri played, but only because we tended to not lose the ball in the first place.

But Spurs did not create that many chances against us. I don't think the high back line was not the reason we lost. We made a couple of errors, but our attacking play was completely ineffective.

I agree that we could do with pace, perhaps Khusanov, in the back 4 but against Spurs I didn't feel panicked by losing the ball upfield, rather I felt that we were never going to score even if the game was played over 180 minutes.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that we had all the risks that a high line brings but we could not make any of the advantages count.
