Manuel Akanji | Rumours of an Inter loan deal

I can't remember who coined the phrase very early on in his career with us. It was something along the lines of "he's never the prime suspect, but he's always at the scene of the crime". That sums up Akanji entirely for me. If there's a fuck up, he's always thereabouts
It could also relate to a certain Ruben Dias.

Don’t blame him for digging his heels in if he doesn’t want to move. After all, he’s contracted through 2027. From his perspective, he’s younger than Ake and Stones and he posted more minutes last season than those two combined, coming back from injury to see us over the line. Heavens, he even played 3 games in the CWC! Do wonder whether it’s a case of failing to shift others and now it’s simply his turn to feel the pressure.

I’m not overly fussed as to his leaving, but if he goes and Ake or Stones break down in the coming weeks, there are going to be some more difficult discussions.

We're interested in offloading our own players that are surplus to requirements. That's where our interest starts and ends in all of this.
Not really. If we allow Liverpool to plug the gaping hole in their squad just to get us £15M and reduce the squad then is that good business?

Not our concern. We lose out on £20-25m (Akanji fee and wages) just to stop Liverpool from buying Guehi. What happens if Palace move for another centre-half, sell Guehi and then we're stuck with Akanji?

My immediate thoughts exactly! It's Akanji's job to be at the scene of the crime...
Reminds me of old Dunnie monster he was right at the crime scene with his hand firmly in the cookie jar, the reason for that is that he was covering up for the lack of cover from the midfield. Akanjii is also the same, he has mistakes in him but most of the time last season the issue was cause by terrible midfield, lack of a press fro players like Håland, Savinho and Doku up top.

Nail on head. He will likely be thinking Stones and Ake will soon be injured, Khus isnt rated by Pep and even Dias will eventually fall out of favour unless he reverses his form. Gvardiol will likely play games at left back. He may even fancy a stint at right back as Lewis is at very very best very raw and Nunes hugely error prone. We have a lot of players but not many in peak form or fitness.

with all the stupid fees flying about for bang average players this window, £15m is a measly price for a treble winner and 71 capped international with 2 years left on contract.
we do seem to be being forced short in our selling.. McAtee £30 million, Akanji £15 million, Jack going on loan, Ederson who knows..
