Neither can anyone, which makes the fact he's been given a new contract unfathomable. He'll be on very good money, good luck trying to get rid in the future. The club has started to make some strange decisions, which is concerning seeing we've got most things right for the last ten to fifteen years. You don't stay at the top by rewarding mediocrity with new contracts.
 
I thought him and Gvardiol looked extremely solid at the end of last season in that great run. And if I remember rightly, as soon as he switched it to Dias and Akanji, we drew against an already relegated, worst team in PL history, Southampton. Admittedly, Dias and Gvardiol started the FA Cup final though and we shit the bed, so I don't know.
 
The new contract is just bizarre. He hasn’t been consistently good for a long time, enough time to indicate he may have been found out rather than a mere loss of form. There was no risk of losing him and no need to give him a longer contract without showing he deserved it. Another in a long list of bad decisions we have made. We used to nail all the big ones but last few years we have dropped the ball.
 
He is a box defender.

Put him in a Mourinho style team and he will look the best in Europe.

You have him marking 10 yards of space either side of him, 40 yards away from his box against a load of fast counter attacking footballers with no pacey players to support him he is going to look like a league 1 defender.

He is massively struggling for confidence and form.

Peri peri eating fucking idiot, cannot believe he’s got a new contract despite being absolutely dog shit for 2 years, looks worse and worse with each game he plays.

Slow, weak and cannot jump. Oooo he’s got leadership, does he fuck. Not a chance any of those players respect him or anything he says considering how fucking shit he is.
 
Dread him being on the pitch. Spends his time either getting beat in the air, bullied in duels or treading water trying to recover.

Genuinely amazed he’s been given an extension based on his past 18 months. Minimum.
