It's Quiet the £250m return

We signed Nico Gonzales on deadline day of the January window, anyone remember when we were linked with him before that? Felt it all happened quite quickly. We did similar before with Akanji too.

Maybe hope something similar happens again this time, with a signing out of nowhere.
Completely agree, we’ve also seen players leave and the deals have been fairly quiet. Feels like Viana does operate differently

It’d help if some of the outgoings got boxed off before we hit Monday though, it’s all rather depressing that we’ve reach Thursday afternoon and fuck all is confirmed when we thought there was a potential of about 6 going out in sales or primary loans! (Not including ones like Kalvin or Kabore etc)

Who do we actually **Want** out though?

Ortega or Ederson - but that's going to go down to the wire because it's based on if Gala pay up for Ederson or someone comes in for Ortega (mad that no one has IMO).

Maybe 1 of Ake or Ajanji? Akanji to Palace seems like it would suit everyone and that rumour only started on Tuesday.

One of Kovacic or Gundogan, but I think Pep would be happy to keep both really.

Squad numbers at the moment -

Trafford, Ederson, Bettinelli.

Ait-Nouri, Gvardiol.

Stones, DIas, Khusanov, Ake/Akanji.

RIco, Nunes.

Rodri, Reijnders, Bernardo, Kova/Gundo, Nico G , Cherki, Nico O.

Doku, Savinho, Marmoush, Foden, Bobb.

Haaland.

That's 24 players, 16 foreign if we keep Ake, 17 foreign if we keep Akanji. 18 (too many) if we keep Akanji, Kovacic and Gundogan.

I think if we offload Akanji and Ortega the squad is done (maybe Donnarumma in for Ederson).

Does it not seem a bit like Viana gets his deals done early though? Cherki, Reijnders, RAN.

Seems like Rodrygo and Donnarumma were purely reactive to potential departures.

The only wildcard i could see is Isak renewing and us going big for Livramento (if Newcastle needs the funds for PSR).

Isak renewing? Hasn't he flatly rejected Newcastle's offer of a £115m release clause effective from next summer?

They can have Doku. 3rd season here looks the exact same player we signed from Rennes showed no growth.

He's still only just turned 23, I think this is the make or break season for him but would be premature to sell him now.

His pace is a weapon there's no answer for, he just needs to fix his final action (pass, cross, shot) like many wingers that age. Ronaldo, Sterling, RIbery, Robben, Dembele...the list of world class wingers who didn't start contributing big goal and assist numbers until they were 23 or older is quite long.

I agree with that i think the one thing i think about Doku unlike foden, cherki, savinho marmoush and possibly bobb is he doesn't know what he's going to do before he gets the ball he just sets off dribbling almost by default.

If we could either harness that into a consistent force, or alternatively make him a bit more considered then his ceiling is very high. He's a weird one could end up like Hazard, could end up like Adama Traore, feel like its more in vision and decisions than anything else.

We need someone to adopt him as a project, the way Meulensteen made Ronaldo scoring his big project at United 20 years ago, or Arteta took on Sterling with us in 2017/18.

Hopefully one of our new assistants will do that for Doku.

I see you’ve done your usual lol and edited after I was replying so I’ll delete my response, haha.

Edit…I was just saying I think it only worked if we dumped one of Kova and Gundo and then hey presto.

Would that give us enough time to sort a deal for Livramento? I think we're waiting probably until next summer, if I'm honest.

I suppose it depends if all 3 parties (city + Newcastle + livramento) can essentially agree a deal that's simply green lit with Isak renewing?

It's all speculation, but it just seems like a scenario that could work well for everyone.

What I was saying though is that assuming we are still going to attempt the Eddie out / Donna in then you’re talking about also completing deals for Ortega, Akanji and probably Gundo out at a minimum, now Savio looks like he’s staying that’s one less to sort. Still a lot of work to do when we’ve also got to box off shitty loans for people like Kalvin and Kabore etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be ecstatic if it happened.

I'm not sure Livramento's fortunes would necessarily be linked to Isak's movements, but we'll see.
