Good British films to watch.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed

Mmm, well there is certainly some extremely fine acting talent in that movie.

Get Carter, Mona Lisa, Villain, Layer Cake all spring to mind crime wise.
Lawrence of Arabia, does that count? Not sure it was filmed at Pinewood.
Titfield Thunderbolt

For all time classic status, I keep coming back to Jim Dale on the operating trolley in Carry On Doctor (Again) - if I'm not mistaken. An insightful cutting critique of the NHS if ever I saw one.

I'm giving Storage 24 a go at the moment. Not sure I'll see it through though. Uninspiring so far.

It's good! Give it a go ;-)
Evening Mac. Okay then; it's just that the characters that are in the storage facility don't make it easy to like them!

Evening Jim ;-)
Yeah, know what you mean, but it gets better.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I watched The 'Thursday Murder Club' on Netflix last night.
It is excellent. The acting and the scenery everything was great.
Not just the main characters but the interaction between the non-speaking or hardly speaking characters. It was so natural it wasn't like acting at all, it was like actually being in there with them.
That doesn't happen a lot in films these days, you are nearly always aware of how things are organised and any CG or whatever it's called is done but this wasn't it was ace.

Well done to all the actors and the people behind the scenes. I loved it.

If you are expecting blood and gore because it has Murder in the title, there isn't any. It is a lovely gentle but intriguing film. (I've read the books so I knew the answer but wondered how they would show it all.)

Read the books, thought Pierce Brosnan was miscast, he was NOT Ron....balding tattooed west ham fan...I would have forgiven him if he'd even tried a cockernee accent...geezer who played Tony Curran ( Geoff Bell) woulda been a better Ron..Still enjoyable though, as you say well acted and made.

I watched it last night too. I hadn't read the book, so had very little background info.
Thought it was really enjoyable, and far superior to the majority of American content on streaming services.
I've read all 4 of the books and have pre-ordered the new one which comes out in September.

I sent the review to a WhatsApp group I'm in and a friend sent back that they'd watched it also last night. He said & I quote: "I've never known a film with such a warm glow to it, if that makes sense. Brilliant."

I did sort of feel that but because he didn't look like himself (if that makes sense) I let that pass. Helen Mirren was Elizabeth just as I had pictured her when I read the books. I remember thinking when I first heard they were going to make a film of it I hoped they would have her in it. :-)

Thanks for the recommendation, a really good film, easy to watch and well acted. I enjoyed it very much.

I see the word "Undocumented" has spread over from a sanctuary city in the US? Looks like a film only a mother could love, it doesn't surprise me you liked it :)
I genuinely have no idea what you’re talking about. Feel free to explain what you mean. Or don’t.

Cristi and Yusuf toil washing cars in Bradford as undocumented workers, trying to shield their traumatic pasts. But after one of their coworkers dies under ...

This IS the film you watched isn't it? Is there another "Ceremony"?
