It's Quiet the £250m return

You'd end up buying Geertruida / Boey / Dodo just to say we've bought a right back give them a year to settle and realise they're no better than Nunes or Rico.

Fwiw I always thought Molina was OK but I still think Nunes could easily be a better RB come the end of the season.
Exactly, if we settle for a plan B option the next complaint on here will be we don't buy world class anymore. The club can't win.

1 year of whinging we didnt sign Aina followed by 4 years of whinging we can't shift Aina.

Still ideal scenario we just offer something absolutely irresistible for Tino. But if that's next summer, so be it.

I think we're gambling on the Geordies not making the CL and us finishing top 4, this season, so that next summer they will sell at a reduced price.

So another potential transition season?

How can it not be mate with the core of the team ageing out? Gvardiol, Khus, Foden, Nico G, Rico, Savinho, Doku, Bobb, RAN are the future but most are not quite ready.

Doesn't mean you can't win anything, just means you respect you're at the end of one 4 year cycle and at the very start of the next. As are Liverpool btw.

We’re definitely in transition and I think it could take 1–2 years before we see the full potential of this side. The rebuild is happening in front of our eyes, but it’s not finished yet.

Viana's had a tough card to play. His job at trying to move on ageing players who are still on big salaries and huge reputations isn’t easy. You can’t just flick a switch and replace them all at once. At the same time, he’s trying to bring in young players who can be the next core of the team, and that takes time to bed in.

We’ve all seen what happens when a rebuild is handled badly. Look at United when Ferguson left – they had ageing players, no clear plan, and wasted years lurching from one mistake to the next. We’re in a similar stage now, but the difference is City do have a plan. Pep and Viana are clearly building something long-term instead of chasing short-term fixes.

You only need to look at the talent we’ve brought in – Khusanov, Reis, Nypan, Echeverri, Savinho, Bah, Cherki, Ait-Nouri – these lads are the future of the club. They might not be the finished product yet, but give it a year or two and we’ll see exactly why the club invested in them.

So yeah, this season and maybe next might feel a bit stop-start, but it’s all part of the process. The rebuild isn’t complete, but when it is, we’ll probably have another side ready to dominate for years.

What a sales pitch, I know your about to lose your best player in the last decade but we are also going to take your starting RB for the next 10years for nearly half what you want but throw in someone we think isnt good enough either.
Hey, it is a total value of 75-80mil which Newcastle is asking for. You got to try all the options first xd

Why did you leave out Doku?

I'd find this easier to belive if Arsenal or Liverpool had much better right backs than us.

Are we seriously saying if we swapped Connor Bradley for Rico Lewis we'd be title favourites?
Possibly. I'll tell you Timber is levels (plural) above Nunes or Rico at RB. The point is why do we have to settle for a makeshift RB? I've heard every possible justification and explanation on here and I'm calling BS on all of them.

Who do we buy who's an undeniable upgrade, provably available and under 27? I've yet to see any suggestions that fit all 3.

And what point after converting to a position does someone become the new position? If Nunes starts at RB and no other position for 2 years is he at that point a RB?

But he doesn't have 2 years does he? He has about a dozen games. Some good, some OK, and some not so good. I like Nunes. He was decent on the left at wing so I'm sure he could do a job at LB as well. I'd have him to deputize both starting outside backs. Rico would never see the light of day as a RB for City again...

Not yet but what I mean is he won't be "makeshift" forever.

From what I've seen this summer there is no right back on the market that's all of:

1 - A definite upgrade
2 - Under 28
3 - Actually buyable

Much like most things Hugo has done this summer, I think he's got it right giving Nunes a chance to go from a makeshift right back into a genuine right back. The early stats actually are pretty promising. A reverse lahm-ing from CM to RB.

But when Timber was available we had Kyle Walker and João Cancelo at the club. If he was available today, we'd have bought him. It's just wrong place, wrong time. It happens.
