Manuel Akanji | Rumours of an Inter loan deal

Some of these players are selfish look what City have given them some a fucking load of trophies/titles,some a champions league, yet they are dragging their feet over leaving when it’s possibly be made aware to them that they aren’t in our plans ..
Contracts go two ways. Just because so many want him gone to make room doesn't mean he's obliged to do so or "selfish" because he chooses to stay. He's not 'Isaking' us, not refusing to play, not slagging us off. He was a cut rate signing who punched well above his price tag. He's owed the option to do as his contract states.

He's not a commodity he's a human being.

It’s sounding more and more as though he’ll go on loan somewhere to get games. He’s got a World Cup to think about.

That is if he can’t find a contract and place that he wants he and his family to be tied to.

We need to make it crystal clear to him for the sake of our future (and situations alike). Players need to know that they are employed by the Club and not the other way round, and will do as they are told.
Unfortunately we're not doing transfers on our PlayStation and this isn't how the real world works.

Contracts are a two way thing. Even if players have been told their futures lie elsewhere, they can't be forced one way or the other.

He won't join a team unless they are in the Champions League.

I'd say he also wants decent money seen as he's turned down moves to Galatasaray and AC Milan.

Fuck all chance of him joining Palace.
I'd like us to bid for Geuhi & give them Akanji as part of the deal. Akanji may want to play regularly in the Premier league in a world cup year. He may want to add the euro conference league to his cv.

And quite right too.
We offered them the contract and we should abide to every part of it.

And we shouldn't offer more than a 3 year contracts going forward imho.

Kalvin, Akanji and Grealish would have both left after 3 year contracts.
We have done quite well through long-term contracts.
For more than a decade hardly anybody whom we have wished to stay has gone elsewhere.
We do want loyal players, and Manuel Akanji has done nothing wrong here.
When we signed Erling to a 9 year deal, we celebrated it knowing his future with us was secured.

We do not need to throw away our guidebook just because we are near the end of the transfer window and a couple of players haven't left yet. They may well yet leave, but if not we need to recognise that the change of DOF and and purchase of new, younger players, always had this possibility when we had players with a few years left.

And this is exactly what I was getting at when folk start piling in on Hugo Viana. Honestly, I don’t get it. The bloke’s shown nothing but ruthlessness since coming in. People are acting like he’s soft or dithering, when the evidence says the exact opposite.

Look at the way Walker and KDB were dealt with - absolute club legends, but the decision was made and it was made quick. No messing about, no sentiment. That’s ruthless. Same with the backroom shake up. The entire staff structure got turned on its head, with long-serving figures moved out and Hugo's own people brought in. Again, ruthless. That’s how you stay ahead of the curve.

But let’s not kid ourselves, there’s only so much you can do. You can’t just boot players out if nobody’s willing to take them. Akanji sat on £180k a week… who’s paying that? No club in their right mind. That’s not on Viana, that’s just the modern market.

And yet, despite that, we still managed to shift Grealish, with Everton stumping up 75% of his wages. That’s clever business whichever way you slice it. People cry about deadwood, but shifting those sorts of deals is about as ruthless as it gets in this game.

So for me, Hugo Viana deserves a lot more credit than he’s getting. He’s doing exactly what we brought him in to do, make hard calls, refresh the squad, and keep us evolving. He’s not the problem, and if anything, he’s a big part of why the club will continue to operate at the level it does in the next 5-10 years.

Also, this obsession with watching what everyone else is doing is toxic. If you can’t handle the fact that City won’t just buy for the sake of it, then maybe step away from the endless Twitter rubbish and clickbait. Stay off social media for a bit, it’s healthier, and it’ll stop you falling into that trap of thinking the club isn’t doing enough just because another team unveiled a shiny new signing for 100 million.
He’s not just ruthless with players :)

The way he’s turning down half decent clubs you’d like to think he’s got a destination in mind that his agent is trying to get him to, maybe they are the club who will be taking the piss on their offer as they know that’s where he wants to go. That way they can give him the wage they want. It’s an unfortunate byproduct of the situation we find ourselves in, but I have no doubt he will be gone by tomorrow evening.

So you would be happy having a single season of Haaland or Gvardiol then they go down to their last 2 years of their contract already

Jesus I'm grateful fans don't actually run the club

So tell how that works we by someone for £100 million but after 2 1/2 years they would be able to negotiate a free transfer to a foreign team or walk away to another PL team after 3 years for free
Not a chance any sensible business would operate this way

Generally, that's true. But it depends on the fee we want. If we are desperate to sell him, we shouldn't want 15m. But then again, we don't want to gift players to other clubs, the same with the fee we want for letting Ederson go.

If we start selling players under their market value, it will have repercussions for our financial state in the future. It's not that we are soft to the players we'd like to move, we are not soft in negotiations with other clubs.

Akanji has the right to choose the best for him and his family. It's not like he wasn't our most played defender in 22/23 and 23/24, two uniquely successful seasons. He has played about 40 (or 50?) games more than Stones or Ake since the start of 22/23. Perhaps we didn't tell him earlier that he had to leave and he didn't have enough time to find a club that suits him. After playing for Dortmund and City, he's unlikely to want to move to a much weaker club or league. He's 30, not 34.

Edit: 52 more appearances than Stones since the start of 22/23, 34 more apps for the Treble and the 4 in a row combined.

In which case, we'll start losing out on a lot of players who will go elsewhere for the financial security of 5 year contracts (or 12 year contracts in the case of Chelsea).
