Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

He may well do but I think he has said he wouldn’t walk away if we were doing shite

But Stay and become a clown for the press and media to wipe the flood with ? Somebody put a picture up before of our system for the Brighton 2nd goal But Sorry that is not a team that wins titles and cups

It's not the players we've brought in, it's the management team
I am very confident in the knowledge that the players we have bought in the last two windows are not what is needed in the premier league , you need pace , power and intensity and be difficult to read and we have little of that now.

it will take a long time to be a side that has what is needed again and yes maybe with a new manager sooner rather than later.

Lost for words after that. Can’t defend. Can’t finish and seemed clueless as soon ad Brighton made 4 changes (including bringing on a near 40 year old Milner!) Only positive was Rodri getting through 90 minutes unscathed. Hope all the players get through the international break injury-free and we can start again by putting the scum back in their box. A draw at Anfield would leave us 4 points off top spot - not insurmountable at this stage but a lot of improvements in attitude and performance needed if we are to get into the title race.

What is worrying is the lack of ability to react to the changes Brighton made

We were coasting, and Brighton didn't look like getting anywhere close to making a comeback, threw on 4 players made some adjustments and we just didn't (or worryingly) couldn't react.

Nunes handball was pathetic, and I thought that was bad, but the second goal! The second goal they had the freedom of the pitch to stroll into, equally as awful to concede.

After being played off the park by Spurs last week, and this 2nd half capitulation against Brighton, its going to take a massive effort to get us anywhere near contending for titles this season.
The fact that we were coasting as you put it is a huge red flag - how many times in previous seasons baring last season have you seen the side socre the first goal and then be ruthless and try to score 2. 3 4 etc. The side even before the first goal went in was flattering to deceive and the evidence in some players play was there for all to see (RAN benig chief culprit - he was so sloppy and careless - thats as bad as ive seen from any player in the last 10 years...he really looked like he couldnt give a shit). Marmoush isnt much better unless he is within 18 yds of the goal...Reinjders the same

There is a complacency amongst the fan base, typified by the Pep/club knows best consistent comments on here along with comments of "he can do a job there and my opinion is right cause i go to matches and if you dont like me you can DM crowd and you wouldnt say that to my face crowd!
No complacency here, having followed them since 1974 I always expect events of a catastrophic nature are only moments away!
I suspect it's not that anyway and we just have shit home support, always have since we left Maine Road IMO.

That's all fine and well, but Pep won't see most of them for the next 10 days (maybe that might be a good thing ?).

Those are my thoughts too, but we collapsed today, no real excuse for that. I'd find a way to get Nico O'Rielly in the team, alongside Rodri, he's a big strong lad and we need some of that, all a bit powder puff otherwise for me.
We did collapse mate, absolutely, i agree.

Is that down to losing to much experience? Maybe.

Honestly tho, I'm weirdly confident that we've a good team and it'll improve massively. I hope.

Thing is if we ain’t on it and take our chances the template is there to beat us more teams do it now when it was just a couple of the better teams

After 4 in a row we was done and Pep should have seen out his contract and leave in a blaze of glory
NOW he will leave with a BAD taste in many people's mouths
I really hope not, but this season is going to be really tough, and we are going to rebuild on a failed rebuild, so it makes sense this his last.

Today was just our fourth game of pre-season. It’s the equivalent of the Chelsea pre-season game last year in Ohio the week before the Community Shield.

Only thing is, it’s the third game of the PL season!

Maybe we should have organised a couple of friendlies in the last two midweeks to get more match fitness in these lads’ legs? because look massively undercooked! We’ve struggled to do anything in the second half of both the last two games because fitness is nowhere fucking near ready for a PL season.

As well as that, we also need to be much more patient and realistic with this team we’ve got now. It’s a squad that’s been assembled quickly in large numbers between January and this Summer. I’ve never seen a football team do well after signing so many players in such a short space of time, ever before. So, why are people expecting it to happen with us now?

It’s a young, inexperienced team with a huge drop in quality from what we were used to seeing from 2017-2024. Elite players have taken time to settle under Pep’s tactics, never mind young lads who’ve never challenged for titles before.

We have to look at us now as a team that’s building for the 2027-28 season, much like in 2009 we were building for the 2011-12 season. That’s where we are. We are in a complete rebuild. With Ederson Stones Aké Akanji Kovačić Gündoğan and BSilva all likely not going to be here by next Summer, it will leave us with no more than half a dozen players in the entire squad who’ve won anything with us. This time next year will be much the same as now because more young, inexperienced players like Reis Bah Nypan and Ecehverri (plus maybe a few more signings) come back to replace those I’ve just mentioned who’s time is nearly up, to keep this full rebuild going.

In the meantime we need to stop with the unrealistic demands that this team need to be playing well together already, playing at a standard most of them have never played at before in their careers as soon as they pull on our shirt, or any notions of madness some might have that these lads should be playing at the standard of prime DSilva and De Bruyne and winning the PL+CL.

It’s like we have comic book expectations of them with no consideration or understanding of the inexperience and newness of this squad.

Time to show what we’re worth as a set of fans and get behind this team like we did the 2009-10 and 2010-11 teams where we had a much more grounded expectations of the team from that era. I think of those as ‘the Poznań years’, they were fun and exciting. We should be enjoying all this, not fucking seeing our arses because we’re not going to get 90 points in the PL or have a trip to Budapest in the CL. These young lads need us to get behind them, and we aren’t doing that.
