Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

We've suffered a few defeats (quite often unluckily) at the start of previous campaigns and still won the League.

However, the performance today was as worrying and lifeless as I can remember in the Pep era.

We've been drifting for too long and this could easily get a lot worse.
Drifting is the word i think. It is all a bit meek and half arsed. As soon as we conceded you felt there was only one winner

Ultimately, we haven't replaced like for like. I do like a 'rough diamond' to turn into a world class player as we've done in the past. We can't get rid or Ake now, as Ait Nuori has a lot to learn about our process. Although we needed control in the second half, he didn't put Gundy on (I assume he's going tomorrow - or was) and there was no alternative. If Khusanov has a injury then Manu stays.
At the moment the season looks like a long haul, but it's early. I just wish that Pep would manage expectations little better. One small bright spot on the horizon is that the two favorites look sterile.

I’ve said it before but I seriously reckon there has been a change of mentality at board level. They’ve won the Champions League/Treble, job done. There’s every chance City could just be a money earner now, the majority of the recent transfer windows have reflected just that. Occasional spending a bit to keep everyone happy at the time.
We have turned into a penny pinching net spend obsessed club.

His first "shot" trickled along the grass straight to the keeper, he was pretty much one on one. I'm not sure the header was a great save or just lucky by the keeper.

We badly need a big bastard in the middle who has strength, I said earlier I'd find a way to Nico O'Rielly in alongside Rodri.
That might just work. I've said earlier I think it's small margins with City at the moment and needs tweaking a bit. If we'd got the draw today the team would have had some confidence but it's going to be difficult to lift them. Maybe a big man in the middle who can't be out muscled is what it takes to get a win.

The old “my way or the highway” will be the end of us..

Pep has earned the right to be given time but surely not if he refuses to adapt..
I think you’ve alighted on something that is very concerning, Khaldoon, the consummate professional, a man with more hats than John Wayne, when he’s not having lunch at the whitehouse he’s cutting billion dollar deals all over the world. From day one the club was set up for Pep, who is around to guide or even bollock Pep? Pep is probably unsackable.

Why?… because nothing lasts forever.

We had a great run of being the NKOTB and exciting stars like Yaya, DSilva, Agüero and De Bruyne wanting to sign for us throughout the 2010s.

Recently, we’ve tried to sign the same kind of elite players but they didn’t want to play for us. There’s nothing we can do about that. We can’t send hitmen round to their houses to force them to sign for us.

If we had a midfield options of Rodri, Rice, Bellingham and Wirtz now, we’d be a serious side. But we don’t even though we tried to sign all of them.

Same as now, Livramento seemingly isn’t interested whatsoever in signing for us.

It’s not like we aren’t identifying top players, they just aren’t interested because there are other exciting teams around and we aren’t the new thing or the only option anymore.

All you said is down to the manager and the club

Players become human, and when you win the lot and do it again and again because the manager demands its from you, But once you settle for a bad season ? SORRY, your manager comes out and says it OK to lose and come up short you have a major problem at the club

You can not turn it on and off like a switch ? you have to be ruthless and make a decision you don't like but its right for the club,

You think Klopp or somebody from a premier league club an elite club let their manager say in public, it ok to lose
Pep has lost his Marbles and I really think the players don't believe in him anymore

Thank god for the international break, and that's the only time you'll hear me ever say that.

Whether something isn't quite aligned yet or is still broken from last season, something has to change. There's unlucky and then there's undeserving.

Endless cash. You are a rag or a dipper. They say that about him being a cheque book manager.
No im not a deluded blue who sees no wrong. Yes endless cash. We had issues last season and the cash got splashed in Jan. only one of them players gets a look in. Then we spent well as part of the rebuild. If them words offend you then ignore them and simply see he’s given all of the tools to succeed. He’s not hampered in any way whatsoever. He is a cheque book manager in the sense he needs quality players overall to play his systems. He was the best there had been for me. You cannot make the same mistakes he is doing and not be concerned over it. You had a hard on for me saying who should replace him but didn’t answer my question: given what’s been spent; given our squad is this the best that he can serve up

Q: I actually put money on us winning the league when we bought reijnders, ait nouri and cherki. How wrong was I.
A: Early days, of course, but 'About as wrong as you can be' looks the most likely at the moment.

Nail on the head.
Won everything.
Put themselves on the map.
All that counts now is money.
Fuck the fans
