Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

He makes a fair point. Wolves did fuck all with em so why should we. We used to be trying to get the Kane's of this world now were shopping at Lidl with the rest of the mid table.
Again! This is absolute bollocks. You know football is a team game? Caicedo didn't do fuck all with Brighton but got bought by Chelsea for 115m and won the CWC.

He said in his press conference that he will not change his ideology, I think most are aware of this by now. Let's hope we improve as a team during the season. With games coming up we are very likely to be playing catch up for top 4.
His philosophy doesn’t tie with our current squad though and we have zero leaders on the pitch, no Fernandinho no Kompany. Still I suppose we will get a nice picture just before the derby of a a smiling team having won a five a side game

I did say we can play to his strengths more. I said it all season last year, we either need to play to his strengths or let him move on. Play slow, stagnant sideways football is not what he needs. He scored 50+ goals in his first season by getting forward quickly onto purposeful passes. We changed and whilst he still did very well, he dipped by 20 goals.

The system doesn’t suit the players or the league anymore tbh. It’s been figured out in my opinion. Maybe with a David silva or Kev we’d be able to make it work, but those players don’t exist.
I meant the one about khus and the defensive shape tbh but yeah same applies to erl.

IMHO we need one or two players who can can actually dribble and beat defender(s) CONSISTENTLY, that upsets defences and opens up spaces. I get so frustrated watching Doku and chums try it, get pushed out wide and then stop and pass backwards over and over again. I don't know if Pep tells them not to try in case we lose the ball but it makes us incredibly predictable and easy to play against.

Is it entirely his fault that he is playing as a right back which is not his best position ?
No not at all , the thing is we never needed him in the first place, and he was not bought to play right back.
Quick question to you does Zab take that cross full in the face ? Nunes is a soft arse and yes I had hopes he could do the RB job but hey ho .

You've almost saved me the bother of posting. I've banged on about it for 2 years, our fitness levels are abject, we use to destroy teams in the last 15, can't remember the last time we did it. Whoever is responsible for physical conditioning needs some help or they need to be replaced. After 70 mins the team is absolutely fcuked...
It's mental as we used to be a very fit side, as has already been said opposite managers used to say we were fucking relentless.
There must have been a shift in personnel at some stage in the background, which in turn brings me to how we keep letting all our tried and trusted best in class backroom staff go to our rivals, all this bullshit of we will just replace them with better is not sustainable and I'm guessing we are seeing the results of it

If we played 3 CBs and 3 CMs you could release the wingers to take people on and not be hurt by it.

Of course pep tells them to do that all our wingers do it Grealish done it it’s just poxy tactics

There’s no luck in going unbeaten in final 23 games of the season, winning 19 of them, including all of the last 9.

The team was coming to its end that season, the best players were all getting older, but we were in no way lucky to win that title.
We were, the slow boring football had already started. It was a proper slog to get over the line. If you dont recognise when the problems start then I can't help you

For me it all comes down to Arrogance.

Thinking we can play midfielders at full back.
Thinking we can push everyone forward.
Playing a high line with no pace.
Playing walking football and expecting to score.

We've become disrespectful to the other teams.

Our weaknesses are obvious and consistent.
It's become SO easy to beat this City team :
Work hard.
Defend deep.
Counter with balls over the top.
Repeat. Week after week after week.

We know that Pep is hurting, and we know that his style of play can be amazingly successful. The intensity needs to come back and it needs to come back NOW. Pace, power, desire, intent. All the things that were absent last season.

One thought from today is that we're playing like a team still in preseason. Were we too soft on our players (post Club World Cup) by not getting them back for more preseason games?
We are like a fat bald 50 yr old strutting around the nightclub he used to regularly score at in his 20s
