45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

How is he made for it? On the ball is his weakest part of the game. He's competent enough as a cb playing the simple stuff, but doesn't really suit fullback. we'll get nothing out of him in possession in that position. Then as a result of being in that position. It means he isnt in a position to make full use of his pace to cover the entire backline. He's a clear centre back that needs to play centre back.
Whilst I broadly agree it was Walker at RB who we used to cover for the lack of pace elsewhere in the defence.

We’ve never been blessed with fast CB’s for a while now, Akanji I guess.

I disagree. We need a defence that can defend. I think he is the best option as it stands.

The only positive on an otherwise shite performance.
"Only" ?

James Trafford was outstanding, and made one very good save, and numerous other saves.

Think taken off today as midfield was over ran in last 10 and prick of ref would've sent him off
He was taken off because he'd taken a knock, we were taking Stones off for Dias until then.

True but aside from walker being a complete one-off that we built our entire defence around, he was actually a natural right back, khusanov isn't. He has to play his position and develop in that position, too many examples of us shoehorning players into uncomfortable positions and sacrificing something as is.

He is just fast. That’s the only reason why some want him as RB. Good that no one has something to say or is a member of the board. Some takes are hilarious. There‘s a reason he is a CB and not a RB

I didn't understand why Pep put him as a left central defender, while for a young player who hasn't started matches for a long time and some (with whom I don't agree) criticize him for being average in his ball releases and passes, normally it's the most experienced Stones who would have played on the left side unusual for him and not the youngest that we try to integrate him and give him confidence, it was the same against Palermo, we can't say that he makes his task easier either by his playing time or his preferred right side

I didn't know the board picked the team ?

Sorry, a bit like today's game, I'd wiped that from the memory banks.

I'd rather he played at CB, and become "expert" there personally, he played well today, the "rash" challenge apart (and from the replay there didn't seem to be any contact).

Anyone blaming him for the penalty is looking at the wrong person.
It is probably the major weakness in his game at the moment though. He loves a sliding tackle a bit too much. Hopefully playing alongside a calm head like Stones will help him with his positioning so he doesn't need to try so many last-ditch tackles, but it's always an issue with really fast defenders that they can use their pace as a get-out-of-jail-free card. He reminds me of a fast Otamendi.

Thought he was solid today. Really good.

Only downside I would say would be that when the team started to get rattled a bit after the 60 min mark he showed his inexperience making challenges which made him a red card waiting to happen.

I would like to see what him and Gvardiol could do together.

Abdukodir is our best and fastest Defender ! When we have 4 fast defenders like he is, maybe we dont loose 1 game all season!!! But the worst is the fact that our experienced players shit the bed all the time.. fuck off

I suspect 2 reasons, firstly we knew they'd be looking to exploit the space behind Ait-Nouri and needed his pace there, nunes is rapid himself and covers behind on the right side so having him on the right creates an imbalance of cover.
Secondly, stones is by far the best defender in possession we have, all build up went through him, especially with no Ederson so we needed him in his optimal position to do that for us.

To cover behind Ait-Nouri, who pushed further up compared to the first two games of the season where he was a bit more conservative. Think if we play Marmoush on the left, we need the width/overlap from the full-back.

If it's Doku on the left, the left-back can sit a bit deeper.

Good today. That second goal doesn’t happen with him on the pitch.

Mainly because he wouldn’t be brain dead enough to stand still and play three players onside but also because of his pace.

I presume Pep wouldn’t have taken lightly to the fact he needlessly dived into a tackle and gave away the free kick which led to the penalty, though.

I really hope this nonsense of the tackle leading to the penalty is rubbished as I read on. They are two separate incidents. Khusanov could have won the tackle, the ball still go out to their player leading to the same situation.

NOBODY forced Nunes to angle his arm up TWICE.
