Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Pep has changed the teams style 3 times in the last 9 seasons.

He will have more scouting intel on Donnarumma than anyone here. I imagine he knows how to accommodate the drop in passing ability.

You arent replicating Ederson with anyone, Ederson was used as an initial playmaker at times. They just don't need to do that anymore. It's not the drastic change that people think it is.

Teams didn't press because of Ederson's passing. With Trafford in goal teams are pressing. They'll press too with Donnarumma in goal as they'll know passing is his weakness.

Even a World Class goalkeeper can’t stop the opposition from scoring if our defence goes AWOL.

I’d suggest we have much higher priorities than another goalkeeper right now.
We do have higher priorities, but we needed a goalkeeper - Ederaon appears to have wanted out for a while and only had a year on his contract- and buying one as good as Donnarumma for the price available is the right move.

He improves the squad and raises the quality of the first XI. Sadly we can’t say the same about several of our recent signings.

The defence needs to improve, but perhaps we can ask our £20m a year manager to do a bit of coaching with them?

I thought that was what we wanted so we wouldn't have to face packed defences like previously.

Had a look on the cafe, they’re gutted to the point one said he’s a Woodward type signing. Hahaha. Bitter, red, stadium falling apart, shit signings, shit managers, shit fans of whom none are from Manchester, horrible, vile rag TWATS!
Love that - the amount of rags I've had telling me that would be their new number one a few weeks ago - all suddenly quiet now. Before you know it, they'll be saying Martinez is better than him! Delusional, inbred, glory hunting, entire fanbase smells of shit, small time sad rag bastards.

Wait on one hand we've got people moaning about us not signing 'best in class', and now that it looks like we are it's not good enough because he can't play out from the back?

He's an excellent shot stopper but won't suit how Pep wants to play. You'll find that out.

Some want to believe he's leaving PSG due to money etc but Enrique wants a keeper who can pass. Donnarumma can't.
But your presuming we’re gonna play the exact same way with donnarumma like we did with ederson? And no disrespect but I feel pep and the analyst’s and scouts have a good idea what’s going to happen.

From Sky Sports Website:

'Donnarumma 100 per cent not the right GK for City'

French football expert Julien Laurens speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast:

"Is he the right fit for Manchester City? The answer is: 100 per cent, he isn't.

"On saves - him and Thibaut Courtois, there are no goalkeepers better. Maybe that is enough for Guardiola to say he wants him.

"But to play for Guardiola you have to be good with your feet. If you're not good with the ball at your feet, you are not a Guardiola goalkeeper.

"His distribution is not good enough for a Guardiola team. And his other weakness is he does not come for the ball in the air, he doesn't like coming for crosses and corners.

"If there is one league in the world where you have to be brave like that, it's the Premier League. I cannot see how Guardiola thinks 'this is the perfect guy for me'."

Maybe we are planning for the manager after Pep? I really don't think he is going to stay beyond this season.

Time will tell if he's a good signing or not. If Ederson wanted out then he's a pretty good replacement IMO. If he doesn't work out then we will get someone else, the same as any other signing. Hopefully he makes this twat eat his words though.

Are they? Did you see the send-off he got in person from their fans?

Yeah he got a nice send off because of his heroics in the champions league.

Across social media they're largely unbothered and not angry at him leaving. And social media is usually a cesspit of anger at the best of times.

Then you drop a defensive midfielder to overlap the press when you have the ball at feet at the back.

They've dropped a defensive midfielder and split the CBs wide in the past to give Ederson a first option off a goal kick.

People act like presses are just this impossible thing to beat unless you have Xavi Hernandez in goal. Everything has a counter to beat it.

Liverpool are one of the most well known pressing teams and PSG only conceded once last year over 2 games against them.

If you look on social media after yesterday, we want Pep and Haaland gone.

Whilst I still have concerns about how this is going to help our style of play, i believe Donnarumma is seen as a leader and Italian captain. We certainly need a few more willing to stand up and fight for results at the moment. But I can't shake either feeling that this isn't the clearly thought out plan we expect that city usually follow.

What is clear is that the current situation can't continue. The Turkish window being open for longer puts us in a very awkward situation too.

What happened to the Diogo Costa talk? He was supposedly all agreed for £50m earlier on the summer. Will be glad when the window is shut to be honest.

Have you seen any hint that we're about to change the way we play? Pep just said himself after the Brighton match that he has his priniciples that he's played for 18 years and won't change now.

He hasn't changed the way we play with a target man in Haaland up top. He won't now with a shot stopper in goal.

World class shot stopper, as the article says. Don't think you can be considered a world class keeper in this era when you cannot play out and struggle with balls into the box.

So you saying Ederson has been a world class goalkeeper? Because he’s always struggled on crosses too and never been a good shot stopper.

That PSG c*nt Laurens was desperate for him to renew his contract last season as were PSG and as was Enrique. They’re forcing him out because he didn’t sign the new deal they offered him by their deadline so they bought a new No.1. The rest is agenda they’re putting into the media. Yes, we all know he isn’t amazing with his feet but that PSG team played arguably the best football in the champions league since peps Barca and they won a treble with him so it can work. They also do not win that CL without his shot stopping ability to bail them out in several of the knock out rounds.
