It's Quiet the £250m return

Would make the Donnarumma signing even more confusing if this is the case.
Id be happy with Trafford as our number 1 but we'd still need to sign someone as a back up that would compete and be able to perform at a high level if he was out. With Eddie and Ortega looking to go we'd have to go to the market and at least he's a world class player.

I think Trafford is more ready than people think. Its great competition to have especially as many think we aren't signing ready made first team level players, that cant be said about Donna

Hmmm Kev and Grealish were very big earners even if we're paying bit of money to Everton we can't be that hard up.

Iirc our contacts were/are heavily built on bonuses and they look like certainly at the moment to be not paid out.
yeah I don't believe this whatsoever. We've just earned £40m from the CWC and renewed our biggest sponser for a world record fee. There's zero chance we're skint. I personally think they're waiting for the 115 result just in case it's involves massive fine of some sort

Meaning if we don’t get more out we don’t get more in.

Hmm, odd one. I'd have said KDB and Grealish were our highest earners aside from Haaland and their wages are off the books now. Plus Ederson.

It's not beyond reason, though, that Reijnders, Donnarumma, Cherki, Ait-Nouri and Trafford haven't taken up what's been shipped I guess.

The issue is the failure to get rid of certain players - Bernie, Akanji, Ake, Gundo, Kovacic.

Why are we only shopping for young players? Excluding Reijnders most of the players we've signed are under 23. Why not go for more established players with experience? Not talking in the 30 bracket but 25 to 28

Probably 4 out of every 5 players we’ve signed in the last 10 or so years has been younger than 25.

I can only think that the club has resigned itself to writing off this season to some extent and is just taking opportunities as and when they arrive. I said on another thread that anyone with a contract expiring before 1st July 2027 is likely to be sold/released with the exception of Rodri and Foden.

This time next year, Ortega, Gundogan, Stones and Bernardo will have all gone (the former two maybe even today). Akanji, Ake and Kovacic are free agents in 2027. I think all will be gone by this time next year, which will free up a lot of the wage budget but we'll know that the keeper spots are nailed down for many years. I can also see the likes of Doku and/or Savinho being moved on for cash. Throw in preferable verdicts on 115 and APT (hopefully!) and we will have huge resources at our disposal. We'll also have plenty of loanees returning.

Let's call a spade a spade, this window had the potential to be a barnstormer and has turned into a shitshow.

We've signed a couple of good players, one of which is out for the next 2 months and 2 goalkeepers which imo wasn't a "problem position".

No CB, no RB, no haaland second string/support striker, no marquee signing.....

Akanji, gundo, kova, Phillips, Ortega still on the payroll....

Savinho, doku, Bobb, marmoush are the current creative force in the building that hardly strike fear into mid table teams nevermind the top sides.

Meanwhile our competitors are going big on quality signings and look a million miles away from us.

I keep hearing "transition" mentioned.... With the money we've blown on also-ran players recently the only thing we are transitioning into are top 6 scrappers. Lightweight.

Very very frustrating after all of the posturing in post-season interviews.

we also had 40m extra revenue from CWC as a one off and no rivals had that apart from Chelsea who got 100m. dont forget we would have paid 110m or so for Wirtz but settled at Cherki for 30m.

I've been called a happy clapper this summer but this is too optimistic even for me.

Donnarumma is a the best shot stopper in the world. But his passing won't suit us under Pep.
Ait-nouri looks like he can't defend, will help going forward.
Cherki, nice flashes but not going to start many games.
Reijnders, played well against relegation fodder and then was anonymous the last two games.
Trafford, good shot stopper but inexperienced.

We've had a bizarre, middling window. Brought in outfield players no top team wanted and haven't adressed the glaring weaknesses in the side.

liverpool has unfortunately had a great window.

We're in a transition, but to what who knows. It will take a couple more summer windows and for them to be getting the absolute best for us to be favourites for the league again.
Worryingly for me the transition started 11 months ago and we are no further forward . Buying signings for the future I understand but to neglect our inefficiencies in our first 11 is ridiculous. Hopefully a blip , Utd post Ferguson and scousers from the 90’s thought the same . Scousers will walk the league

The moment we pulled out of the wirtz deal was the moment Liverpool won the league. Not because that player is Messi but because it drew a line between us and them. They are going big. We are seemingly signing more but in the next tier down.

I’ve said before and countless others have. Replace world class players with decent/potential and you’ll drop down a level. It’s as simple as that.

Wirtz looks pony so far. For that price I’m glad we pulled out.

We didn’t pull out of the Wirtz deal. He chose Liverpool over us
