Manuel Akanji | Rumours of an Inter loan deal

100% this. Far too much silliness said about Akanji in recent weeks imo. I don’t think Dias has been any better than him whatsoever in the last 12-18 months and agree with you, Akanji is the best right back option at the club. You’d certainly rather have him against Vini Jr away in Madrid in a few weeks than Lewis or fucking Nunes.

Akanji was doing fine against Real last year until he got injured and had to go off

Unless we have a RB lined up he must stay. See if we can flog nunes and Rico to Saudi before the window closes. Through in Gundo and let’s see how that’s looks close of business. He has become a bit of a liability but he has the physical presence the other two lack.

Also he did play that ball into the box for Rodri to score from so it’s not the end of the world he stays for another season.

A loan might be a bit pointless, that's just a free transfer then.

Akanji’s still got two years left, so it would be the same situation as Grealish.

Get a chunk of their wages off the books for the season, and free up the squad place for a player we’re actually going to play.

Not ideal - but we are where we are, and we need him to leave to have any chance of bringing in the RB we desperately need.

So he does, I had been thinking he was going into his final year. Maybe a loan with an obligation is possible then.

He's pretty slow, offers nothing going forward and isn't averse to making a few defensive howlers as well. Probably wouldn't be any worse than our 2 current options but I doubt he'd be much of an improvement either.
TBH, I think he is better than both our current right back options. We are getting slaughtered on that side. Every team is attacking it.

Loan with no obligation to buy. Poorly done by City.
Alas, we don't have a great hand to play here. We need to cut the squad size, which also cuts the wage bill. I hate loaning out seniors like Grealish, Phillips and now Akanji, but we're left with precious few alternatives.
