Goal threat - Marmoush joined before the summer with other words not an issue that has been solved this summer. And he has not exactly looked elite when playing on the wing, which is the position he will mostly be playing here with Haaland up top. Cherki/Reijnders is not enough goal threat if we want to win the league. We need at least another player who can score around 20 goals (in all comps) so we are not so incredibly dependent on Haaland, imo.RB - no even remotely adequate RB moved this summer
Goal threat - last season Cherki got 9, Reijnders 10, Marmoush was the 7th top scorer in Europe
Rodri back up - Nico G is likely the closest thing out there
KDB replacement - Reijnders and Cherki were two of the closest profile players we could go for.
Out of interest who moved clubs this summer you feel we missed out on?
The Rags and the truth from Sky are paths never to be crossed.Just been a Villa fan on Sky criticising the fact that rags can spend so much whilst being billion in debt yet Villa who have no debt, can’t spend. Sky presenter in background looked very twitchy :-). After all, nobody can say things like that about red clubs. Soon moved on to adverts :-)
With Cherki he’s just unlucky he’s come to city at this time when our midfield is terrible. No pace, power or physicality. If we could get reijnders to be stronger in duels and get Rodri fit, Cherki would be starting. Even Wirtz would struggle to get in based of physicality alone. The difference is, Liverpool can protect him and we can’t.Goal threat - Marmoush joined before the summer with other words not an issue that has been solved this summer. Rodri backup - "Nico G the closest thing out there" is pure fantasy, if it was true we wouldn't be conceding loads of chances every time he or anybody else not named Rodri plays. Doesn't mean I think its impossible for him to turn out good in the end, but judging from what we have seen so far it's not enough. Him struggling to get starts despite Rodri being out last season says it all about how well he has handled that role so far.
KDB replacement - Reijnders is a Gundogan replacement, not a KDB one. Cherki possibly (looks exiting) but would argue that if you are not even coming in as certain starter in our worst team in a decade I wont consider you as a good KDB replacement until proven otherwise. With that said, I have high hopes Cherki could be a success here over time.
And I'm not really interested in going into a debate about "who would you have signed, which players that have moved this summer would you have gone for" and so on.
Considering our status as a club in world football, financial muscles and worldwide scouting network I expect our DoF to put together a squad that will make fans believe we have a chance to win every competition we compete in. Not a squad which makes even the most biased fans lower their expectations to thinking qualifying for CL is a good season like if we are Spurs.
Feel free to disagree, it's all just my opinion of course. You seem to be of the opinion that all of our players are great, yet most of them look mediocre (by our standards) every other week.
EDIT: I might add the obvious, this is of course just how I view things right now. I, like every other City fan, obviously hope for the best. Nothing would make me happier as a City fan to be proven wrong and that Nunes develops into a class RB, Savinho takes a couple of steps in development and scores 15-20 goals, Cherki will be our player of the season after nailing his starting spot down and Nico overcomes his initial struggles and plays as the player we all hope he can. I might be a glass half empty kind of guy, but what I think will happen and what I hope will happen is often not the same thing. With that said, I'm just a clueless fan so what do I know :)
Selling Salah and VVD to Saudi can only realistically happen next summer. It would shift about £800k-a-week in wages too. The issue they would have though is replacing them with similar quality. We're talking about two players who'd get in an all-time PL XI. Losing VVD would be akin to us losing Rodri - you take out the keystone, the defence looks a lot more vulnerable and then things can unravel. In the case of Salah, I firmly believe they'll go all in for Michael Olise. To my mind, it's absolutely vital that we steal a march on them to try and bring him in at City. He's your Mahrez successor right there. I think he'll be the best winger in the world in a short space of time, with Yamal being the only exception. We are more than one or two windows off competing at the very top again.
Sadly, we are now in the position some of our rivals were in when they were chasing us.
We have to hope Liverpool and Arsenal run out of serious money, otherwise they can add one big name a year to maintain any type of gap.
Worryingly, I also see a point where Liverpool can raise £150m selling Salah and Van Dijk to Saudi, having boxed their extensions.

I know where you're coming from with windows, but isn't it time for us to start improving the players we do have? Marmoush is a case in point - we can all see he's not very good off the left and likes to drift, so why aren't we adapting our play to suit it?We are more than one or two windows off competing at the very top again.

The Turkish transfer window is open for another 9 days, so plenty of time for Gundo to agree to a move.last place I'd expect to find anything out ;-)

Disagree. One solid fullback on each side now will radically alter this team
Why would Bayern sell Olise?Selling Salah and VVD to Saudi can only realistically happen next summer. It would shift about £800k-a-week in wages too. Yes but being 30 or over doesn’t make you deadwood. Hopefully some on the list will still do a job this year, if can stay fit and recover a bit of form, but agree I’d be very surprised to see any of them next season.Ortega, Bernardo, Kovacic, Akanji, Grealish, Phillips, Stones and Ake. All over the age of 30 by the end of this month. Three of them will be out of contract next summer. I'd be amazed if any of them are with us this time next year. We may end up loaning out one or two of them again.
Not now Donna has signedI fear we could lose Rodri next season as well :-(
...... the truth from Sky is a path never to be crossed.....
Yes indeed. We need to focus on getting our current squad playing at their best then we'll see what the gap isI know where you're coming from with windows, but isn't it time for us to start improving the players we do have? Doku hasnt improved in the time he's been here. We've even seen the defenders playing it to Trafford's left foot as if it's still Ederson in goal.
We're in a hole at the moment but respite from the transfer window might do us a favour by concentrating on what we do have and making it work better
You not that keen or impressed neither then with Ait Nouri?
It may seem to you , but do you think it's very likely? To me it seems they are taking a longer veiw and rebuilding for the next few years not looking for immediate results. The last treble team took 8 years to get to but had successes along the way. I expect the same to happen this time too, though maybe not another treble.I enjoyed the last 8 years journey, going to sit back and enjoy this next journey too.The board after reaching the top of the mountain seem to have now lost some competitive drive?
I think he’d be fine with another one there. As we’ve already seen the issue is if he goes off or can’t play we’re back to ake who can defend but it nullifies our left wing as a threat starting a chain reaction of us looking static.
Gvardiol is a great player but got destroyed at left back again and again, has no idea how to defend a ball over the back of him. Far too many goals came from getting behind him and crossing low to back post so good old Rico could fail to know a man was behind him…again.
We need actual full backs. We have one. We need 4.
We bought Mendy Walker and Danilo all close enough to each other so it can be done.
They've still got their competitive drive but instead of it being focused on the first team, it's focused on alienating match going supporters, particularly season ticket holders. The board after reaching the top of the mountain seem to have now lost some competitive drive?
