We need to ask those people what goalkeeper IS 'perfect with its feet'. I can't think of any other except Ederson right now. Maybe he's an anomaly and the club realized that and told Pep we're not gonna find a GK like that again because it's impossible so we went with the next logical step: the best GK in the world who is also available = Donnarumma.
 
It is also a clear message, along with signing Reijnders, Ait Nouri, Marmoush, that Pep is going for a more direct system. Possession is still crucial but we will move the ball forward more quickly like PSG. Donnarumma is also a leader on the pitch, Captain of Italy. It’s a bold move like the one Pep made to axe Joe Hart.
I hope we see this quick movement of the ball very soon
 
I watched a game a while back, he was in net, can't remember who it was against, but wow, he was unbeatable that night. This guys special. I think a lot have already been brainwashed by the City hating media thinking every keeper needs to be Eddie and there's a lot of apathy towards him. I seen a few stats recently that put him very high with the top world class goalies with his feet, so he can't be that bad surely? We're never going to get another Eddie, its just not happening, the guy was a freak of nature. But what this guy will do a lot better than Eddie is command his area on crosses etc and save unsavable shots. Maybe Pep will start to change his style of play in time who knows? But what we have here is a GRADE A WORLD CLASS KEEPER and probably the World's no1 too. And his Mrs is fit as fuck :)
He's in the 18th percentile for aerial duels, meaning that 82% of goalkeepers are better than Donnarumma when dealing with aerial balls into the box. This is probably the weakest part of his game.

He's a world-class shot stopper and has an amazing highlight reel, but he also has some significant deficiencies in his game.

I hope this works out and he goes on to be a City legend, but I have my doubts.
 
Thank fuck for that, best news of a seriously underwhelming window. We’ve finally made a world class signing.

Having this guy in goal will earn us 15 maybe 20 more points than would e been the case with Trafford. Having confidence in the keeper will improve the defence too.
 
will be an early shock to him imo that here in PL games are different even vs shit sides can be competitive than most of the games in French league. I am sure the bottom 6 clubs in Ligue 1 would struggle a lot vs the likes of Leeds, Burnley, Wolves...
also coming from fresh treble win to a side that looks to be in freefall after our treble win 2 years ago.

but he wasnt wanted there, was pushed out, we wanted him, offered him a good platform, top wages, hope he comes in to repay that.

Where do you get that stat from ? 82% of keepers in which leagues ?
 
I don’t think it’s that crazy. We went with a 23 year old unproven ederson and a very young Joe hart who’d just come back from a loan in the championship

Interesting tactically. With our slowish defence we could do with a more solid defence structure backed by a brilliant shotstopper rather than sweeper keeper. This, in theory, could create more space for Haaland etc to exploit. Time will tell.

I agree, it’s a gamble, but I don’t think we should be judging a what 20 year old keeper on one season. I can’t think of any keepers starting regularly at that age.
 
Not so.

As soon as he attempts numerous 100% foreseeable risky/bad passes - and can't sweep and otherwise obviously isn't a fit for our system - then... I'll post that I told you so.

That said, I think that Donnarumma in the right side, playing to his strengths, at least on current form, is one of the top keepers in the world. But he's now our #1 and we absolutely play in a manner which highlights his weaknesses.

Which leads me to this:
Why the fuck did we sign him?
Why the fuck did he agree to be in our side?
Apart from the change in GK style we are not a team that is particularly good at keeping possession. We have lots of what I'd call chaos players, Erling, Marmoush, Doku, Reinjders even Phil who can benefit from a less structured game. If Pep is up for it then it could work. If he wants to play how we've played the last 8 years we're fucked and so will he be. And rightly so..

That's shocked me that has. I thought his handling was best part of his game. Ive obviously looked at them stats wrong then! :-/
