One to think about in the run up to the Derby.

The vermin call us the bitters. But they’ve ended up far more bitter than we ever were.

Who’s the bitterest red in the media?

Has Paddy Crerand kharked it as you never hear from the **** any more?

From the current crop of journalists I’d go for the Grauniad’s John Brewin.

I wanted to include Crerand, but I don't think the man is in full possession of his mental faculties. Last I saw him being interviewed was about a year or so ago and it was painful. Booze has destroyed whatever cerebral functioning he had and it's nigh on impossible to understand a word he grunts.

It always was.

Used to have a spot on a Friday evening on a radio show hosted by Ivan Yates. About 15 minutes discussing the weekends matches.
Yates is a City supporter and used to slag him off regularly.
Crerand got the huff on one of the shows and stormed off never to return.
He was replaced by Phil Thompson who used to get similar treatment from the host.

Well before reaching his current state, and having had the painful experience of living near to him, I can confirm that he was an arrogant, ignorant and totally unpleasant twat.

He had a serious sense of entitlement due to being an ex-rag player. Utter ****.

I’ve told this story before, and I read it in @Gary James' excellent biography of Joe Mercer.

In the time between Sir Joe and Big Mal being appointed and the start of the season, Crerand bet Malcom that City would never again have a crowd of over 30 000, I think it was.

Crerand lost the bet within two games.
