WSL 25/26 Discussion - The Other Teams

Quite a few recognisable names in London City Lionesses. Didn’t realise how much depth they had.

No idea how we ended up in the wilderness.

There aren't any teams in the WSL who can be regarded as 'fodder'. Most teams make it difficult. They might have limited attacking threat but they will chase all afternoon and consistently block a path to goal for players who like to run at a defence and apply a little bit of twinkle-toed artistry. It become essential that good chances are put away - something that seems to evade us!

I think there will be a couple of teams outside the top 4 who will pinch a few points off the big teams and hopefully make the title race a bit more interesting this season. Despite falling to bits at the end yesterday, LCL played some really good football i felt. They're only going to get better the more the team gels. Will be interesting to see how they get on against United next week.

I think Leicester have a very rough season ahead of them and might well be fodder for the rest of the league. Liverpool have had a terrible transfer window too and despite winning today, the spurs squad is pretty crap.

Gareth Taylor has hit the ground running with the red scousers.

Losing to Everton 1-4 after 72 mins.

The Gareth Taylor effect......

There must be an imbecile in charge of Liverpool’s Women team. First they sold their best player to Arsenal then hired the incompetent Taylor as if his 5-years tenure at City was not a warning alarm. It is early, but I won’t be surprised they get relegated, unless they get rid of the genius early enough.

Find it crazy how much stick United get for the management of their women's team compared to Liverpool. Like Ratcliffe's attitude towards the womens team stinks and people are right to point that out, but for a team that likes to market itself as having some kind of social conscience, Liverpool are falling way short in how they resource their women's team. This is a club that spent over £450m on transfer fees this summer but has left their women's team fully in the shit. It makes no sense.

I see Taylor has started how he means to go on. Beaten at Anfield 4-1 by Everton. Taylor is the first manager of men’s or women’s team to concede a hat trick at Anfield since Dixie Dean scored one.
Well done Gareth.

Maz Pacheco looked good. Could be one to consider for our left back position if she continues to develop
Mate, she's closer to 30 than 20 (she's 27) and been playing senior football for almost a decade. I don't know how much more development she has left.

I am not taking a shot at you. I'm just saying she hasn't just now come into the league. What you see is maybe what she is at this point.

Hahaha to be fair mate I thought she was still 25!

Also, in terms of development I meant more playing in a better team than Villa, more than anything :)

Yeah, Pacheco most likely the finished article and even though a useful player, shes probably at her level. Was available on a free this summer on nobody above mid table saw her as worth a punt, including us.

A couple of half decent leftbacks moved on frees this summer. Poppy Pattinson left Brighton off the back of a good season and obvs Olga Carmona from Real Madrid (who im not totally convinced by but is certainly better than what we have and there's not loads of great LBs about.

Holmgard from Everton (who replaced Carmona at Madrd) would have been my shout. Was in the WSL team of the season last year and was very attainable.

Rags lose first leg of Qualifying Round for CL 1-0
Anyone know how good Brann are? Could they beat them again second leg or am I just dreaming?

Anyone got tickets for the lionesses at the Etihad in October?

Got two early bird tickets in block 005. Taking my mum to her first England match. She’d spent her whole life completely uninterested in football despite having three mad Evertonians for sons (myself included) I started watching City women a few years ago and she gave it a go and loved watching them on the telly. She got Euro fever and now comes to a few games a year at the Joie. Shes buzzing!

I just found out that Liverpool not only sold their best player, Olivia Smith, to Arsenal, but they also sold their captain, Taylor Hinds, to them as well. I thought Hinds was doing an excellent job for Liverpool. Perhaps that is how they were able to secure the funds to maintain Salah’s and van Dijk’s salaries, that in addition to buying all the new players for their men’s team :))
