11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

Yeah - change the system for this one trick pony.
My heart sinks when this unreliable, limited player plays cannon fodder. It's like a reset button for Father Dougal on here. We should play the dribbling winger in the box and he's not as effective because our striker is "sedentary" .... classics.
Weird that the system doesn’t work no matter who plays on the wings. But I forgot time stands still for the pep system. The same was said about mourinho years ago. Let’s keep that system until 2075 even though we’ve been found out since last year

The goal where he ran past the defender then shot smashed it past the goalie! Now why doesn’t he ever try to do that for us? Seem when gets down the line it’s about crossing the ball!

If I had to guess it's probably because the average PL defender is better than whoever Azerbaijan had defending him. Bit more time, bit more space, easier to make the right decision.

Your flogging a dead horse mate talking sense to some on here about certain players, no matter what they do they are shit, they never think it might be Peps fault why some players aren’t improving, that’s inconceivable to think like that on BM, leave em to it pal and support all the players like I do no matter what.

It worked before we bought 2 unnecessary, limited, out and out wingers.
Yeah strange that. The moment we shoehorned him in it detracted from us.
We've been "found out" as you say, by the standard, football intelligence and awareness of some recruited players. Doku in particular.
As I've said countless times, he will have some excellent games - usually against poorer opposition - players like him do. But he will disappoint more often than not.
Lol about bigger blues supporting "all" the players - well done you.
Yeah those of us who are critical aren't worthy. Nothing would please me more than if Doku ran the Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea defences ragged, retained the ball when necessary and picked the right options. Maybe if I clap more then.

Did Grealish work out for you or why has he been sold? The system has been found out. It doesn’t work. Our defense is getting exposed in every game. We buy players to alter their playstyle. Ait Nouri is a wingback turned into an inverted fullback - we expect our wingers to score while they are isolated all the time. If you really think that those certain players are fault then it’s on you. For me it says much when certain players do play with more freedom or better somewhere else than at city.

Small point of order mate, Grealish hasn't been sold.

Carry on regardless :)

Er yes. Obviously Grealish worked out.
He hasn't been sold (thankfully) - loaned.
This system with some current personnel doesn’t work.
The system changed inevitably (by design or ability), when Doku and Savinho joined. Don't see why some can't grasp that.
The wingbacks are overloaded, covering for players that are prone to lose possesion and position, whilst being asked to get forward to support them.
Grealish (and Mahrez) played the percentages, these 2 have no awareness, regard or understanding of the wingbacks.

Only 4 league titles out of the last 5 with a great but ageing/injury prone team. I'll wait a bit longer before declaring our system no good.

Pep's system was "found out" in 19/20 as well. And the first months of 20/21 " confirmed" it. Unfortunately for those pretending to be City fans, then City won 4 in a row, including the Treble. The 4 in a row video should have been titled "Found Out" :)

It’s not been great to watch for a while. No doubt though we’ve been very spoilt with some of the football we’ve witnessed over the last few years. Pep’s system needs a lot of great players to work(like for most managers) it didn’t work too great in his first season but then we signed more players to suit. We’re currently pretty short on truly great players for the first time in a long time. Therefore we don’t look like we’ve much chance of even being close in the title race.

It would be interesting to know how much say Pep is having on the string of mediocre players we’ve signed since the treble.

Back in the first months of 20/21, it seemed we didn't have enough great players: David and Sane left, Aguero and Ferna past it, Stones was shit the previous season, Laporte still recovering from his horrific injury, Dias 3rd or 4th choice for a Kompany replacement, Cancelo unconvincing, Sterling a bit erratic, Gundo and Rodri not good enough, and so on.

The point: it's too early to say whether the new players can be great for us.

None of the players signed will ever be in the same class as most of the ones mentioned.

Given that Rodri, the best player in the world (the only City player to be actually, not just potentially, the best in the world) was Plodri, can't be sure about the future.

Can't rule out that Donna, Gvardiol, Khusa, RAN, Gonzalez, Reijnders, Cherki, Bobb, Doku, Savinho will be world-class players for us.

Fun to debate but I think it's near enough impossible to predict. Progression is not a linear process, anything can happen to speed it up or kill it dead. A burst of form building confidence, a change of role in the team, a badly timed injury etc

No-one would have predicted how Salah would have turned out when Liverpool first signed him.

Am I seeing that he played on the right for Belgium and scored 2 goals?

Have we tried him on the right at all?

That's my point. It may be that none of the younger players becomes a big star. Or it might be that 3 of them, say Gvardiol, Bobb and Cherki become world beaters.

Personally, I think that both Gonzalez and Reijnders can become very good players like, say, McAllister and Gravenberch. We may need to sign a top top midfielder next summer.

He didn't score them from the right, he scored them from the left.

We know that Doku's greatest strength (and what hes maybe best in the world) is that 5-10 yard acceleration burst. At City, that burst is used far outside of the box, at the byline, which as we have seen time and time again, results with getting past the first defender, and then as he gets caught up by the man he just skinned or closed down from inside, he is under pressure and starts to lose balance, and sends a suboptimal cross. The fact that Haaland is also clueless around the 6 yard area doesn't help, but the main issue is that Belgium plays him further forward and slightly more central, and they play a lot quicker. So they the ball to Doku somewhere at the edge of the box in transition, before the defense is set, and from there the burst and shot is unstoppable - no matter if its Kazakhstan or Liverpool, who btw he tormented the last few matches. And Chelsea too. Just for that strange GaudinoMotors poster who really hates Doku. All the players play better against weaker teams, duh.

Belgium also play Doku in a more free role where he gets to roam between left, right and center and there is not that much emphasis on keeping possession from him so he tries a lot more stuff.
