Kalvin Phillips

No he was decent for England. As you say the bar there isn't high but he showed enough that he could play an holding role for us to give Rodri a rest here and there.

If we played three centrebacks behind him, two defensive wingbacks, and another holding midfielder beside him. Totally different to City.

Nope... Still Mangala.
I’ve banned myself from typing the “M” word. I get over emotional adding up the fee and the wages. Then I zone in on the own goals, the red cards, the injuries, the penalties given away and minutes “played”. Finally I have to relive the multiple posts about how good his debut was like that makes it all OK.

I’m trying to blank it out and I’m and getting medical help. If I ever succeed in forgetting the M word I may then agree that Kalvin was one of the worst. Until then my struggle continues.

Edit: see the first game stuff below as night follows day.

Doubt he was ever competing with Rodri tbh. He was brought in to either replace him when required or sit alongside him when needed. Either way he looked like a rabbit in the headlights & lacked the football intelligence/awareness that Pep-ball requires.
The lack of football intelligence is particularly concerning as we bought Nunes and Doku the following summer and they both seem to struggle in the same way.

Not exactly awful signings, but they've hardly kicked-on

Never understood the Nunes signing. Doku whilst having some much-needed attributes won't be troubling Mensa anytime soon.

Crainey was peanuts but Bradbury was 3m which was a club record at the time.
I think we got short changed.

Creaney was £500k plus Paul Walsh, so you could probably argue £1.5m.

Neither fee was peanuts to the club at that time. In terms of % of total spent in each of those seasons, Creaney's fee amounted to about 18% of our spending that year. Bradbury was 52% of the year he was signed.

Not a perfect comparison, but to give an idea -
comparing that against the amount we spent this summer, Creaney would be the equivalent of spending £32m, Bradbury £93m. I guess we'd expect them to have done a little more for us, shall we say...

Jesus them figures are obscene.
I actually feel sick.
