Obviously we don't see what goes on really in the club so this might be unfair, but to me Phillips hasn't really shown the drive and desire to prove himself and his worth to the squad that Delph and Zinchenko did.

Also he can't really run.
If this fellow appears on Sunday or indeed ever again then we really are starting a Skid!!

Last year Liverpool lost 4 and dropped another 18 points in draws.

That's all academic, though - I think it'll be a long season of disappointment for anybody who genuinely thinks that we can fight for the title?

Might be better to set more realistic goals this time around.
Looking back historically for a long long time no team has lost more than 5 games and won the title.

We’ve got 2 defeats to play with for the rest of the season. One at Anfield and one other.

How many Liverpool players would be guaranteed starters at City? VVD (34) (I'd rather have Gvardiol who will soon be better, even if only because VVD is oldish, but if you prefer VVD then move Gvardiol to LB where he isn't inferior to Kerkes), Salah (33), Wirtz (hasn't shown yet he deserves to start ahead of Reijnders or Foden), McAllister.

Wouldn't have Alisson over Donna, Konate over Stones/Dias/Khusa, Gakpo over Doku/Marmoush, Gravenberch over Rodri, Isak over Haaland. A combined XI would arguably have more City players, say, 6 to 5.
So, if it's not because of the players...?

Its not the 11 per se, its the way pep keeps setting us up, its setting us up to fail, the world and his wife knows we have no pace at the back yep pep keeps insisting on this stupid highline which keeps killing us, the back four shouldnt be allowed 10 yards ahead of the 18 yard box, you have one of the worlds best midfielders there use him to bridge the gap and stop getting us killed with a stupid high line which we quite simply cant play.
Our press is not at the races anymore so even if we had 4 prime Walkers at the back we would probably still be vulnerable plsying a high line.

It's incredible that nearly 30% of people who have voted think them rag cunts are gonna win.
Has everyone's head gone.wtf
Lot of nerves going into this. 2 defeats already. Signs of weakness in the defence. We can’t afford to lose this so I understand the nerves

True, but the maths tells you that Liverpool's dropped points last year - winning at a relative canter - were the equivalent of 10 losses.

(to repeat myself, though - still purely academic, this season imho)

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on the forum, so apologies if it’s in the wrong place.

I’m coming over from Finland with my son for our very first Manchester derby this Sunday. I’ve actually been to the Etihad once before (back in 2013 when we beat Norwich 7–0) so I don’t think we’ll be bringing any bad luck this time either!

That 2013 visit was very short, but now we’ve got a bit more time (Sat morning to Mon evening) to enjoy both the match and the city. I’ve done a bit of research on the sights already, but any extra tips on football-related stuff or the city itself would be much appreciated, good pubs, “must-see” places, things we shouldn’t miss.

Our seats are in Block 303, so we’re looking forward to seeing the match from up there. We’re really excited and will be cheering loudly for a City win!

Every single potential 11 I've seen on here just looks so 'meh' - I really don't know what the answer is, but we have fallen so heavily behind Liverpool

They just spent 2 record fees on players no better than Foden and Haaland.

Thier 3 best players are 34, 33, 32.

Kerkez, Frimpong and Ekitike aren't much better than the very impactful players they're replacing.

They're maybe good for 1 more title because they clung on to Salah and VVD rather than renew the team.

Well be in transition for a season but our young core (now including Donnarumma) is better than theirs.

Do you get the notion of rebuilding a team?

We have signed 8-9 new players since January, most of them from foreign leagues, and have two in Rodri and Bobb coming back from bad injuries, plus a short preseason (nearly 3 weeks behind Liverpool and Arsenal) and several injuries.

I get that the urge to simplify things, blame transfer policy or the manager is strong. But rebuilding takes time.

I do get it - I was playing Devil's Advocate :-)

Could be big coat weather on Sunday and I was going to wear my snide black and chrome shirt for the first time but it's the rags it might clash with the MIBs so it's my genuine 2011/212 home shirt so I can stand out in the stand and on the train.

I agree with both those player assessments, but on a wider point, it's amazing how Wirtz, who was the designated City saviour on here right up until the point we dropped out of the race for him, has been reduced to an average player and total waste of money.

Let's hope that this knee-jerk judgement is more accurate than the one the majority of posters held for months.

Wirtz is a great player don't get me wrong, but so is Foden at his best. POTY Foden was at a level Wirtz may never touch.

Cherki is a level below but for 80m less probably a wiser buy.
