The Rise of the Far Right

How do you know "local multicultural communities" are not intimidated?
how do you know they are?

I am coming from the perpspective of people I work with in 3 sites across Manchester people from place like from Siera Leone, Gambia, Pakistan, India, Syria, Hong Kong, Lybia, Algeria Ireland and then brits, and when discussed it is shrugged off or joked about who is getting deported first, none are letting it causue them distress.

If violence, abuse or vandalism are egoing ghand in hand with this nonsense towards a community then that is differentn but for now those I,know from many communities are not leltting a lamp post phase them

Tommy Robinson organised march with Steve Bannon and Katie Hopkins as guest speakers alongside Laurence Fox and convicted violent criminal and tax cheat Ant Middleton. But no, it's not far right.

That's a right wing platform alright, but those numbers tell a different story. I've been on some large demos in my time including the march against the Iraq war in London 20 odd years ago, which was reckoned to be the largest ever seen.

Believe me these fuckers are harnessing something bigger than the few thousand usual suspects they could muster not too long ago.

But keep on kidding yourself if it makes you feel whatever.

All a bit beside the point.

The point being...

You're not dealing with the EDL.
Manzoor’s book includes examples of Muslim outreach to non-EDL members who might otherwise be susceptible to anti-Muslim bigotry.

And a lot more besides. It’s quite an unflinching study too.

The contents page indicates the trajectory the author follows.

The numbers just tell you there’s a lot more people that share similar sentiments nowadays, I don’t think anyone is kidding themselves about that, or what it means in terms of dealing with it being much more complex.

But this isn't primarily anti Muslim bigotry either.

If anything it's about ethno nationalism, and because the left are wedded to multiculturalism they have no means of talking about it, so that leaves the field clear for the racists to command the narrative.

"It's complex" is the left's default position when they want to avoid the obvious.

So you argument is that something can't be far right if it has a large number of attendees?

And what sentiments might they be?

What you have just put there -

“If anything it's about ethno nationalism, and because the left are wedded to multiculturalism they have no means of talking about it, so that leaves the field clear for the racists to command the narrative.”

That’s exactly what the left (which to me isn’t actually the left, it’s anyone left of anyone that has that sentiment) need to counter. It’s not as binary as ethno-nationalism vs multiculturalism, even the EDL didn’t argue for ethno-nationalism, they were cultural nationalists and that’s where the battleground now is, which is why it now has the support it does. I’ve seen very few people actually argue for multiculturalism in its purest form either.

And it’s complex because it’s not binaries, obviously, nor does it actually align directly with politics.

That and no-one has any clue how to sort it.

Obviously...

Well I didn't want to bring it up, but now you mention it...

But this is not, on the face of it, some broader right wing protest. It's not got mainstream right wing politicians or other right wing public figures involved, it's exclusively got the far-right agitators and usual grifters. Some normal right wing people might have got caught up in it, but it's clearly a far right event if that term is to mean anything, and shows a worrying trend towards far right sentiments being more widespread. At least for me. Some people on this thread might be rather sympathetic to far right views and not see it as so worrying.

Give a fucking rest. Some of these posts calling everyone Racist & Nazi’s at these marches.

If there’s not enough take the piss, too many it doesnt make them right!

If every other group can march, why can’t these?
The only problem i can see is when the football finishes and thousands of firms decide to go down after being on the piss all day

It will all be over in a few hours then you can get back to crying over flags on lamposts again

Look at these 2 Gammon Knuckle draggers
Racist bigots

It will all be forgotten tomorrow.

Just put the West Ham game on, chill and don’t let it all get to you.

Will await the next march in a few months from another group of people who arent happy (which will be us if we get smashed 0-5 tomorrow) ;-)
I don't get it. Are you saying it's not racist because these two are there? You do know some of the worse racists are sometimes married to people from another race. Human psychology doesn't go in a straight line.

Your concern is noted.
