A great result for us and hopefully a result to help us kick-start our season. They were LUCKY though and it should've been 5-0!!!
At times we had flashes of the 'old' City and yet other times where we looked like a brand new team who'd never seen each other!!
Haaland was absolutely immense and it's the kind of performance we knew he could do, but didn't for whatever reason. His link up play, movement, defending, finishing and closing down set the standard for the team. He was exceptional. Mind, Foden and Doku were as well and they had no idea on how to mark them.
Defensively we looked so much better although there was quite a few shots from them towards the end of the game. Strangely, we defended in big numbers (it looked that way to me) that we looked the type of defence that the 'bus parkers' do to us. They literally struggled to get the shots away as there was so many bodies blocking the goal. I thought Khusanov and O'Reilly were very good and should start next game. Khusanov is a beast of a player and rapid!
It's got to be said, Donnarumma was also exceptional. I honestly think we won the game due to the saves he made. Ederson would've let one in and I could imagine our confidence would drop. His punching was first class and he looked exactly what he is - one of the best keepers in the world. He's exactly what we needed and it must be depressing for our opponents to know we've got a keeper now who can win games for us. He reminds me of how Courtois played for Real - he's not great with his feet but you need to pull something special out to beat him. Donnarumma is the same thing for us.
Quick thoughts on United and Amorim. It's over isn't it? It's not working. They have some good players in that team but you'd have no idea. Their midfield was non-existant and didn't protect the defence and Sesko looked lost up front. Mbeumo is a good player but he can't be expected to win games on his own.
My prediction is Amorim is gone by Hallowe'en. They have some tricky fixtures coming up - Chelsea, Sunderland (newly promoted teams try harder), Liverpool, Brighton. I don't see them picking up many points from these and they could realistically be in a relegation scrap by then. Absolutely incredible really given the money they've spent.
If they have any nouse, they sack him soon and go for someone who knows the league and is able to get the best out of players. The lad at Bournemouth or the Palace manager is the kind of manager they need. Of course, they won't get them and Scruffy Jim will no doubt be looking for the cheap option and so it continues!!!
COME ON CITY!! GET IN THERE!!
