25 | Gianluigi Donnarumma - 2025/26

Its a really simple thing but something I saw in the South Stand is that the bloke is absolutely massive. He literally towers over the net.

His kicking isn't great but his shot stopping ability is world class. That effort from Mbuemo goes in 9 times out of 10 against other keepers. Donnarumma's massive frame means he can get there.

I also think he gave the back four loads of confidence. Even things such as geeing up the back four seemed to have an impact. Him and Dias were properly fired up.

A great debut against a team that didn't really press.
Greater tests to come, for sure, but a very pleasing start.

Exactly what we need as a keeper, strong, enormous, confident and a fantastic shot stopper. I'm not taking anything away from the influence Eddie had with the team and his contribution to our success, but the team isn't what it was and we now need a keeper who can keep goal. Eddie isn't even close to Donnarumma in that regard, few if any are.

The signing feels like a signing of old.
We just went out and bought one of the best in the world. That save at 2-0 was huge

Hes gonna become a favourite too if his knee slide celebration in front of the scum is anything to go by

That save was unbelievable, Mbeuno caught it perfectly. If that goes in the whole game changes with the rags thinking they can get back into it, loved Eddie for what he’s done for City over the last 8 years. However would he have got anywhere near that yesterday?

I think we should accept the fact that goalkeeping skills > ball playing skills. In the end donnarumma is a better saver than ederson. Obviously ederson made us more effective playing out from the back which makes me think that we need 2 ball playing CB instead of one now. So a gvardiol - stones combo would suit us better. Nothing against Dias he had a good game but was still weaker than the others in my eyes. Sometimes put Rodri under trouble because he rarely passes outside and keeps the ball for too long.
I think it’s 100% the case for us now because quite simply, we aren’t as good as we once were. We never needed a world-class stopper, because the opposition only used to have one or two shots per game and they would usually come after they were 3-0 down. Eddie was the perfect fit. We are very rarely blitzing anyone these days and we concede many more chances than we previously did. We need a top stopper and we have bought the best in the business.

had some iffy passes

but never in doubt, that confidence in front of goal. just wow

I can live with him.

What I can't live with is Ruben passing to Trafford's wrong foot from the 6y line under an immense press so everyone blames Trafford.

The Rags press was nowhere near like what we faced vs Spurs or Brighton and even more worrying for me was the fact when a totally out of form Rodri went off.. we lost all control of the game and the rags had 5-6 good chances that they squandered.

But yes I still think Trafford is a better keeper but I'm for City winning games.. whoever does that I'm not gonna complain about!
Right stop fuckin trolling you know very well Trafford isn’t better, I bet even his dad doesn’t think he’s better. Honestly can’t believe I’ve had to put that bit in bold. And it’s fuck all to do with opinions. It’s just completely wrong. Does my tits in.

I was right in line with it and it immediately felt like a goal.
As you say , for the game to go 2-1… nervy!!!

I think he is very much a keeper that we need now, as we move away from the possession based football, we need a shot stopper and someone who will command an area.

Donna looks the part

Ps get some clippers don, that thatch gave up the ghost way back :)

Everything he did felt like a…goalkeeper. It was a bit like having Hart back in there.

I loved Eddie. Best I’ve seen at City in my lifetime. But I was never particularly confident when teams went through on goal or even had a shot.

Yesterday, though, even when Sesko and Mbuemo went 1v1 in the first half, I was confident he’d save them.

He smothered the Sesko chance like it was nothing - plenty of times we’ve seen Eddie rush out too soon in that situation and give away a penalty. The Mbuemo one was miles over/offside but he made himself big.

And that Mbuemo save. Fuck me. Ridiculous.

Plus he looked buzzing when he ran out for the second half and was waving all 3 tiers of the South Stand.

Might have a bit of a man crush on the bloke.

I like how when he came out punching, he cleared everything out. Don't think we have had a keeper like that since the great Joe Corrigan?

He went through Dias and Gvardiol a few times nearly punching them just to punch the ball away. So commanding and wants to clear the ball at any cost

Telling how the other players look to him - already a leader and a figure head. Clearly a top keeper. We need to stop comparing his kicking to Eddie - that’s unfair - compare his kicking to Sanchez, Raya or Allison and it’s ok/solid. We need leadership and he provides it in abundence. Proper signing.

Didn’t have a lot to do, but what he did was great with an outstanding save from Mbuemo’s volley. He has this swagger over him that gives defenders confidence.

He will be busier the next two games and with that in mind I’m happy to have him in goal.
