9 | Erling Haaland - 2025/26

Can't find it now, but an earlier BBC report referred to him 'somehow contriving to hit the post when it was easier to score'.

Disagree with this. At full stretch you've no control at all. I wasn't in the match thread, other than half-time, but I bet he was given some stick for that one at the time?

Was still a bad miss but a lot more understandable when watching it again. At the time i celebrated before he hit it. Just thought he had a complete open net, which he did. I didn’t realise he had to slide though. That made it much more missable

The covering United defender gave him less to aim at. If it hits it through the middle of the goal it gets blocked I think.

Superb performance. He's so good on the ball as well. There were lots of comparisons to Isak last season, with many seeing Haaland as a goalscorer but incapable of doing anything in the build up. He's shown in big games before, including against Arsenal in that title decider a few season ago, that he can drop deep and play the ball off or turn on it and beat a man. He's actually got excellent feet and vision.

What we need from him is that level in every game. It's hard if he spends the game without service but if he can try and take it to the opposition in the same vein he'll create for himself as well. It does help having someone like Foden around who can help make things happen for him.

Only personal downside for me is that because of his defensive contribution, I'm even further away from convincing anybody that he shouldn't even be in the box at corners :-(.

I'd have him prowling along the halfway line. Not only would this probably keep a couple of the opposition's big defenders away from our area, but I'd fancy Erl against any defender - and against many pairs of defenders - in the event that the ball falls to us and we hoik it un Pep l-like upfield.

It might keep Gabriel honest when they have corners next week...
Yes I want him to give that tosspot Gabriel what for next weekend. And then dish the same up against Rudiger come December.

I don’t mean to sound disrespectful, but here’s an interesting fact:

Aguero scored his 129th goal for the Sky Blues on April 2nd, 2016 — in his 198th game for the club.

Thanks to both of you, City legends

Honestly mate, I don't think that he had the luxury of picking any sort of spot.

One of those where all you can do is try to poke it in the right, vague-ish direction with zero power just to keep the ball live.

The beauty is, he'd forgotten it before we all had. Those one-on-ones may look easy, but with his second goal he had all the time in the world to overthink it. You never felt he was going to miss. Right up there with the best bits of business this club has ever done, I'd say.

Laughable looking at the chat that seemed to bubble up in the last few weeks about who's the best striker in the PL, Isak or the lanky bloke. Don't get me wrong; Isak is a very good player (even if he acted like a twat to force his move to the dips). Imagine him and Haaland in the same team! But as to who's the best? Seriously?

Unless Isak's agent is on here, it must be the same people who used to talk up (aka invent) the 'rivalry' between Michael Johnson and Roger Black, which was similar to my personal rivalry with Usain Bolt...

Black seemed a nice enough fella. But Johnson was a beast. Always enjoy listening to him as a pundit on the Beeb as well.

I thought, as well as his performance which was excellent, he is showing growing signs of leadership and taking responsibility in a wider sense. At one point yesterday, I saw him sprint back and giving Dias a bollocking for something it was great to see. His best game in a City shirt.

The frustration with Haaland is that too many games can pass him by if opposition cut off the supply to him. I am in the “He’s doing a thankless job for the team” camp when it comes to those games, but it’s still frustrating that your best player can only touch the ball 6 times in 90 mins sometimes.

Sundays game felt like he’d decided he was gonna make an impact on the game no matter what, if the action wasn’t going to come to him he’d go find it.

I guess it remains to be seen if that was just because it was an emotional home derby or if it’s the next step in his development.
