47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Felt very david silva like his performance, especially in the first half when they were pressing so heavy on Rodri and Reijnders, he dropped further back a number of times to pick up the ball and calm down the play in the middle.

No, his passing isn't elite. That's David Silva, KDB, Fabregas, Ozil, Bergkamp etc.

Foden lacks that ability. He's a decent passer but not good enough to play centrally for Peps teams. Intellectually, he's also lacking to be our playmaker. He doesn't have the IQ of players like KDB, Lahm, Iniesta etc. Lastly, he lacks the arrogance or confidence to consistently dominate games. Bellingham doesn't have Fodens ability but imposes himself more on games due to personality.

In his best season two years ago, he produced many goals and assists without being the fulcrum of our play. Once KDB returned from injury, Foden was playing mainly outwide again.

A good facilitating player but not technically or mentally good enough to be our main star imo.
He was on sunday pal.

Controlled the tempo of the game, showed his passing,as I said he could if played centrally and on form

Think that was his first headed goal since his PL debut goal vs Spurs in 2019.
Nope, he scored a neat head cushioned goal v Brentford away 2 seasons back...
Scored 3 that day,the sign of a world class player bagging 3 away from home in the top division.
It was the best Blue hatrick in London since Ron Futcher at Stamford Bridge.; )

Scored a header against Madrid a few years ago too.

There were 2 chances when Doku was through and he either didn’t play the ball or overpassed it. He had a very good game offensively and defensively but he isn’t a top
Playmaker and there’s nothing wrong with it

A lot of people on here will be eating humble pie this season!
Really?

For sure, Foden is likely to return to form... but " a lot of people on here will be eating humble pie"... I disagree.

Foden is obviously world class - but he's been injured - and moreover is coping with mental issues - the later of which can easily be the most debilitating.

Foden was class against ManU - I hope he's over all of his troubles - in which case he'll be awesome for our side.

Watch him play centrally regular this season and then maybe reappraise..

Picking two examples in a whole match where it didn't quite work for him is nonsense

It's like quoting Haaland missing 2 chances to score and then saying....he is not the complete centre Forward...
This is Foden centre mid ....now KDb has gone.and well all know how many passes our ex midfielder misplaced.....he was still utterly brilliant in that position over the course of his City career..
Foden has been given a new role and imo will grow into it....
