I watched Amorim's post-match press conference and the 2nd question is a great and obvious question...

"You've been here for 31 games, and you've won 8 games. At some stage you are going to need to accept that the way you set up your team is not working."

Amorim responds by saying "there are a lot of things that have happened in these months that you do not know about".

What is he referring to? Utd buying players he didn't want, or arguments with the players? Unfortunately the journalists don't realise what he has just said and ask their pre-prepared questions. This is never teased out.

IMO Man Utd are playing better than last season. They had a lot of possession vs City. They have some big problems though, and it's not clear to me how Amorim can overcome this:

1) Sesko was awful. Going home on the bus, I was listening to blues arguing over Sesko. One had to be shown the team sheet to prove that Sesko was playing. OK, this was his first game but what does he have in his game that would frighten you? I can't see anything. He's not quick. Nor is he a great threat in the air. It's perhaps very harsh to judge him on 1 game, but that was a poor individual performance.

2) The goalkeeper is an issue that is potentially going to cause them huge problems. At some point soon you would think Lammens is going to come in. If he struggles, which is quite likely given his age and experience, then Man Utd have a huge problem. They should have brought in Martinez. If he makes a mistake, then so what, you know he is a good keeper. If Lammens makes a mistake, he will come under huge pressure.

It's clear that Amorim might be fired if they fail to win in their next 2 games:

Chelsea (H)
Brentford (A)

Then Man Utd's board will see that CL is impossible and they will face a fundamental question: Does this manager display the qualities that we want. Do we believe in him?

In my opinion the job is too big for him and he says stupid things in his press conferences. Press conferences are not the most important part of a manager's job but they give you a window on their emotional and mental state. He says a lot of stupid things. In this press conference, when faced with a difficult question, he cracked but the media were not sharp enough to follow up on his answer ("there are lots of things that have happened in these months that you do not know about").

Their celebration of their transfer window as something only they could do in their position. They’ve spent upwards of £200 plus million on Premier League jobbers and a striker that looks worse than the person he was replacing in Hoijland. Not to mention signing a keeper from a league that is worse standard than the championship.

I heard some idiot rag in the beer garden before the season started that they could compete for the league with their new signings. I nearly spat my pint out in disbelief.

They get rid of Amorim and the circle of mediocrity keeps going. They’ve already got Sancho, Hoijland and Rashford out on loan, a new manager comes in and he will have to completely rebuild the squad and take a wrecking ball to it. Trouble is who would want the players they have? They only have one good player in Fernandes and he’s the wrong side of his career age wise. It’s death by a thousand cuts and will take another billion to fix, trouble is they need probably another three billion to build their stadium on top of what ever the council pays to move that freight terminal. They are in a right spot of bother.
Good innit ;)

It's the midfield that is his problem.

Ratboy didn't track Foden for the first goal, Ugarte hilariously out of position for the second, and the 3rd goal came because they'd vacated the space in midfield and their defenders had to push up to close the gap, which left them open in behind.

They need to play 3 in midfield. I'm not a manager, but I would put Masroui in there as the holding midfielder. If your center half is having to close gaps in midfield, you've got a big problem.

'Is Amorim's 3-4-2-1 doomed at the shit pit?' Asks Sly Sports. No! Absolutely not...it's working brilliantly. It's not his tactics, Sly. Honestly it's not. He just needs another transfer market to open and spend perhaps £500 million on some new (well, newish) players: Carlton Palmer, Kevin Davies, maybe Le-Tiss and Robbie Keane - they're available, I believe.
You're real problem, Mr Sly, is that you have little faith in Amorim. Why? For all these years you have done nothing but perform fellatio on anyone who takes over at the swamp. Remember your screams of orgiastic delight when Van Gaal turned up? Remember how you told the world "Be aware, this man is about to make sure they (I'm not going to fucking mention their name) will be back at the top of the tree. This club don't do 2nd best!" Remember that?
What you have to do, Mr Sly, is put your considerable weight behind our campaign to keep Amorim at the swamp, for years and years and years - or until the bastards are declared bankrupt and ran out of town, for good.

(Ignore the times, just realised I had my VPN on).

I reckon they might have 10 points at the end of this run, averaging a point a game, if they don't beat Sunderland they're in trouble.

Maximum 9 points surely, DDWLWD, even if they get PGMOL assistance. I think they will get at least 5 though.

Going to be long periods of suffering without European or League Cup distractions if this set of games goes badly.
