Seems the way of the world now Macca.

In some ways we have been lucky in being able to live a pre internet/social media life where batshittery was usually stamped out with a bit of piss taking. We were brought up with a sense of interaction with community and looking out for each other.

Kirk's killer and millions of others have grown up with a tiny screen feeding their mind and forming their opinions that the world is a big scary place. You're better staying isolated and living through social media.

I fear empathy could die because of how minds are being formed through engagement on their phones.

This is the plan.
To undermine truth and democracy.
So that nobody trusts what is truth anymore. Everything can be called out as AI or whatever.

Violence and the taking of lives is abhorrent.

That said, Kirk was a terrible human being, stirring up hate for his far right, Christian supremist ideology.

And Trump is loving this! It's an excuse to clamp down on free speech - labelling any criticism of Kirk or statements about gun control as hate speech. And numerous media outlets - either inclined towards this viewpoint - or fearful of Trump - are firing those critical of white christian nationalism.

It keeps getting worse and worse in America.

The one thing I'm amazed by with the whole fake text messages where he outlines means, motive and opportunity in perfect exact detail is that he doesnt refer to his roommate with "I know you are trans, my love..."

Which is fine and I agree with the sentiment, you didn’t offer no sympathy though, you said good.

I wasn’t making the point on that though, more that when someone like Kirk is killed, someone even more extreme will take his place and his side of the debate will immediately seek to embolden their position, which we’re already seeing happen, so it’s no good for anyone, well, it’s no good for society, it might be good for a select few individuals.

That first vid you posted on that post, I’m tempted to put a counter argument up to but long realised that an internet forum and that particular topic are not good bedfellows! There’s a lot of historians that wouldn’t disagree with him though, just not the sentiment he puts it in.

The Executive Orders issued in Sept 2025, by President Trump at JD Vance’s urging, in response to the Kirk assassination the previous week.

Main Provisions and Impact
• The EO suspended several key civil liberties of certain political organizations prescribed by the Constitution, including personal freedom (habeas corpus), freedom of expression and press, rights of assembly and association, privacy of mail and communications, and protections of property and the home.
