Have we have got our attitude and a spine of Captains back?

I'm not interested in talking about press narratives, it's the road to mental ruin bothering with that shite, it will and does drive people potty:-)

Anyhow i was just replying to your post as it was. What we need is a Wow performance, the last two games do not fit into that category imho and there have been some ott giddiness but that's what being a supporter is sometimes.
Let's hope we are very happy indeed after the weekend. I'm holding out for that really good performance in one of those big big games.
Liverpool have won their last 5 games without a ‘wow performance’, they’ve looked like not winning each and every one of them.

We’ve played very well the last two games, this will build over time. The derby and a CL game against the Italian champions are big games.

As mad as it sounds, I don’t think we played brilliantly against United. We conceded too many chances and were lucky that they are absolutely shite. We were good to create more chances ourselves - but an absolute mile off how controlled we were in 22/23.

Last night was significantly better, but clearly supported by the early red card.

I don’t think we should be getting giddy after two games. Arsenal will be a real test on Sunday (sorry to be negative, just an honest view).
I think that’s fair except the comparison with the treble winners. No team will ever be as good as they were.

I dont think we are quite ready for a wow performance yet but im quite liking that they are willing to put the grind in, the team look like they are happy to fight which hasnt been noticeable for sometime.

Fair point. I suppose I could make the same argument for any season in that '4-in-a-row' team. I think we're showing promising signs that we COULD get back to those levels. But a bit of patience is required.

Erm lets not get too giddy and united are crap (agree with you there) and napoli are stubborn but limited ( 1 defeat in 25 says you were a bit off there) so yeah it responded to what you said that when city win its cos the other teams are poor, i went off on a tangent but the original bit where i said that we can only win cos the other teams are poor is effectively responding to what you said.
This just like when Utd were good ( in the dark and distant past )and lost a game it was because Utd were shit that game ,but when they won it was because they were brilliant, no mention then that their opponents were shit ,Press ,Media and fans alike can be just be so fickle to suit their agenda(s)

I think we'll just have to accept that this won't be a perfect season. New players and new tactics. But the fact that we look confident, are working hard and the lads are looking forwards more instead of sideways are good signs! Arsenal on Sunday is a big one but I feel pretty decent about it.

Donnarumma looks like he has given a few a wake up call, tonight we looked like we wouldn't be bullied

the spine of our team needs to be

Donnarumma

Diaz or Stones

Foden
Rodri
Silva

Haarland

Every one of them would get in Liverpool and Arsenals starting 11 IMO!

All SEVEN of them are treble winners and all are captains! That experience and attitude is exactly what united had in the early 2000's under Ferguson! if the above players want it like they did tonight, the rest of the squad will give everything they have to be part of it, and raise their game!

If we carry on wanting it like we did tonight, teams will soon be scared of playing us again, and be beat before they step foot on the pitch! just like in 2023!

Foden was born to do this, David Silva was his teacher!
I love your positivity, mate!

But if every single one of Donnarumma, Diaz, Stones, Foden, Rodri, B. Silva and Haaland magically transfer to Liverpool and become available to play...

I think that Foden (on current excellent form) and Rodri would start.

Haaland doesn't particularly fit Liverpool's system - but might start ahead of Isak given that he's more prolific at scoring.

No way that Donnarumma, Diaz, Stones, or Silva make the first choice starting 11 for Liverpool most times.

A fully fit - injury free Stones would make his way into Liverpool's side. But due to injury he'd often be unavailable.

Oooh now theres a debate as i think the centurions have a shout for it.

Not in the CL.

The 18/19 team was probably better than the Centurions due to winning 98 pts and all domestic trophies (the Centurions won 100 pts in the last possible moment at Southampton).

The Treble winners were on a different level in the CL breaking the record for unbeaten games in Europe.

Doku looks like hes starting to get it
I very much hope so.

Doku has seemingly been given to drift infield instead of touching the sideline chalk and this very much fits his style.

I'm still not a Doku fan... and I've doubted his ability... but just maybe - given license to do whatever he wants - he'll live up to expectations for a City winger.

HANG ON A GOD DAMNED MINUTE - This thread is waaaaaay too positive. What is wrong with you people?? I'm sure there will be requests to admins to remove it if you continue down this route :-)

Alisson and VVD are 33 and 34 respectively. Virtually any team would rather have Donna (26) and Gvardiol (23), unless the time horizon is 6 months. I think Gvardiol will have a better season than VVD anyway, and objectively there isn't much between Donna and Alisson right now. Donna outperformed him last season, including in the tie between Liverpool and PSG.

I'm feeling marginally more confident after the last two games

Donnarumma is looking supremely confident, all those worries about Ederson f**king it up have evaporated away

Do you actually think for an instant that Liverpool would be happy to trade Alisson for Donnarumma and VVD for Gvardiol? It's a downgrade in both positions - and a keeper that doesn't fit their style of play.

Yes, the future belongs to Donna and Gvardiol. When VVD was 23 he was still playing in Scotland. Talent wise Gvardiol is at least comparable. Next summer VVD is 35.

And Donna is already as good as Alisson being 7 years younger.

The last two games have seen solid victories against a mediocre team and a team down to 10 with seventy minutes left; we must not get carried away.

The positives are that we look much more solid with Gvardiol and Dias side by side.
Rodri looks to be gaining in sharpness.
Foden looks electric in the 10 position.
Haaland looks fit, strong, and a leader.
We have wing options to allow Phil to play centrally.
O'Reilly and Khusanov provide a lot of physicality on the wings.
Goalkeeping options are strong.

We have Ortega and Phillips to leave.
We may or may not decide to buy a full-back.
Juma Bah looks a beast.
Nypan looks to be doing well
Reis looks very good in a poor team.
Hugo Viana appears to be already identified academy players who are ready to make the step up - there is a LOT of talent there - Mfuni, Mukasa, McAidoo, Gorman, the Heskeys, and both Samba boys...

There is a lot to be very positive about but our big rivals are very strong and have more squad stability (Arsenal). Getting into the top four would be a good result, IMO. Next season, we aim for it all again.
