Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I still don't understand the long term plan/formation. It's a good result against the 'sling it in' merchants, but who plays in midfield and in what positions. We have too many squad players and the have too many first team options.
You couldn't have played RAN at full back today and the only other player is Omar.
If only Pep could see what I can't.

Was wondering about what he was doing.

Never thought I'd think a player was intentionally quiet quitting for us, but that it crossed my mind led me to say aloud, "He's off by the summer, maybe even the January window if the price is right."
I actually think he'll be fucked off on loan somewhere if he carries on in this vein

No but we didn’t win either.

We needed a win and another high line defensive shit show saw us undone.

We played a 5-5-0 formation and still conceded with a high line to a ball over the top!

If that were the rags (who were level on pints with btw) we’d be pissing ourselves.

It was a shocking performance wrapped up as a grind it out, gritty defensive display…. Which we didn’t even grind out.
No we didn’t

We were 5 mins away from winning away at Arsenal. That was the plan. Unfortunately it wasn't successful. We didnt lose like 80% of our fans thought we would, so cheer up. We lost 5-1 there last season

The difference towards the end was the benches. With Cherki, Kovacic, Ait-Nouri and Marmoush all injured we only had defenders to bring on. We can't buy a break injury-wise at the moment. Especially when Khusanov had to go off.

Given the available personnel, I thought it was a great performance full of character and professionalism.

I am proud of the lads to work so hard and play a system that’s never been in their dna.

This could be helpful come cup games.
It shows Pep can be more pragmatic without the ball.

I was never confident in a win but we were so close. I think the last 2subs weren’t entirely correct.

The biggest errors in my opinion:
1. Haaland not passing to Foden for the tap in. 0-2 and we’ve destroyed all hope.
2. Savio and Tijanji no going to the corner in the 92 min.
3. Donnarumma coming off his line for no reason.

Pep taking out Khusonov makes no sense to me. If he’s still there his pace take cares of every issue. Especially when Dias won 1/5 aerial duels.
Nunes sub makes no sense since we didn’t attack. He was great but you asked him to do everything Khusonov can do to a better degree.
Taking off Foden was understandable but Haaland was the sub that was incorrect. He was our biggest outlet and the reason we won 2nd balls. He also was our reason why they never scored from corners. Bernardo should’ve been taken out instead.

We have to win 5-6 games in a row.

The team and tactics were impressive. They almost worked !

Doku and OR my standout players.

Tijanji should skip the next game. He’s really struggled since his first game. Great assist but my goodness the Serie A truly showed me how slow that league is. I still have faith in him

I think Nico G should come back to the side idc if Rodri is the one that plays higher up i just think Tijanji needs time off. Bobb at RW is needed.

Lessons learned ?
We can defend and be very disciplined.
Never take off Khusonov
Every game is a final to stay in touching distance of Pool.

Just can't take a poster seriously that has a user name subliminally celebrating a City players serious injury. Time to change it eh?

They got in behind us once. Once. If we'd have played a "normal" Pep game we'd have been torn to shreds.

Cheers,
Trautmans Broken Neck.
It’s a username on a forum mate. Definitely not celebrating it - it ruined our season. You’ll find other users with similar usernames on here.

On the actually relevant part, we did defend well. But when you play like we did, making a mistake like we did is bound to happen. Happens in any system. Problem is it’s likely to be more costly in the system we played in today.

This opposition are very good in possession of the ball. With teams like that the only way is to defend with men behind the ball which allows us to hit on the break. The possession stats will get better as we improve our passing success rate but its early days. Pep has really changed his tactics to compete against possession based opposition .

And none of that is contrary to what I said.
