Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

It worked to a certain extent, we got a really good point.
Yeah you're right. Ultimately its not a disaster when you zoom out. I think for anyone who watched the game, it's just a little deflating seeing us go that close.

But yeah you'd take a point at Arsenal any day. For all the jokes, they're still a top 3 team in the league.

We're a team in transition with many new players and some key players coming back from injury. It's not rocket science.

Only if we make no progress in the spring or next season can one say the recruitment has been poor.

I'd say signing Donna, Gvardiol, Doku, Reijnders, Cherki, Marmoush, Khusa has been good business. The jury is out about other signings. Remember some thought signing Rodri was bad business 2 years after he arrived.
Yeah, you conveniently miss the likes of Phillips, Nunez and Nico! Some of them you mention are good signings and some the jury is out on. The point is we are in transition but we’d be a lot further a long with better signings or signing replacements earlier. It was pretty clear to see Walker’s legs were starting to go in the treble season or that Bernado has been on the decline for 18 months. This is hardly speaking in hindsight.

Are you forever going to mention Rodri when mentioning newish players? Awaiting Marmoush at 27 to find a good first touch then. You’re right that we’re in transition and will be for a while but it’s down to poor recruitment. Players get old and we’ve not replaced great ones with players at their level. The result is last season and us having to be so pragmatic against serial bridesmaids Arsenal.

Are you sure we won't win a big trophy this season? Because what you write here makes sense only if you know that we aren't winning anything big this or next season. Sometimes transition periods last more than one season, unless you are Bayern and play in the Bundesliga. Too early to tell whether the recruitment is poor or excellent. I think it has been largely excellent. Any team makes poor signings.

Yeah, not a chance we finish top 2 or win big ears.If the signings have been so good why aren’t we as good as Liverpool or Arsenal anymore?

Not just that, but also the fact that we're playing with just 2 days between the games, when Arsenal had 4. Ultimately, some compromises have to be made in that situation.

We are far more of a new team than Arsenal who are mostly settled but with no trophy.

We had 2 days less rest while traveling TO London.

Pep, while never going this defensive usually made the right choice.

An end to end high pressing game against Arsenal in this moment would be a bad idea.

His plan was perfect, the goal only happened to a transition, which he set us up to not have against us, the players messed that up.

I am actually quite pleased with the way he approached it
Based on the circumstances - away, last years result, their run of form
Never thought I'd see him do it but credit where it's due
Countering actually suits players like Haaland, Reijnders, Doku
Obviously would have liked to see more passing in the middle to reduce pressure but not too fussed
Most things I've seen this year is that he is willing to adapt based on the circumstances
Now for a more favourable run of fixtures where we can play our usual football & get a win streak going

I wouldn't like us to deploy these tactics too much as I would like us to build a side to dominate again. But it was a means to an end I suppose, Pep said in his post match presser that he didn't like it.

Not having that if we went there on 2 months things would be any different. Is Bernado going to have legs by then or is Rjeinders going to become a combative player? Poor recruitment is the reason we had to play like this. Don’t blame Pep for doing it but don’t think we’re unfit.
Don't have it then but it is a fact that we haven't had a pre season. We will be a fitter better team in a month.

I’ve criticised pep a lot for not changing and tbh he is seeing the need to adapt and that’s good . If the Uzbek doesn’t get injured we win the game and he should never take our only striker off .

Even if he’s injured and we are defending deep? Just because we don’t have another striker on the bench is no reason to flog our best attacker to death!

Let us know when we can physically compete with Arsenal or Liverpool in midfield then!
You’re a bit of a glass 3/4 empty guy, aren’t you, Craig?

After the week we’ve had, a more judicious fan might be more circumspect…assuming you ARE a fan, of course.

Tbh what I mean is that we should never be in a position that a club as big as us should never be in a position to have no striker on the pitch . When you invite pressure with no outlet in the end you get caught out as we have done it many times before .
