Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

This is what I thought. Replays all started after
I said before the game that we'd lose out it in the 50/50 decisions in this game, and we probably did .... Arsenal fans do that much moaning from the stands it influences the weaker referees into not giving the visitors decisions!

Players were injured and knackered, and we needed to shift formations to blunt their attacking subs.

Which part are you struggling with?
If a good chunk of the starters today start against Huddersfield, I'll hold my hands up. But I'd wager most won't feature in that game. I'd reason an extra twenty minutes today wouldn't have hurt, but then I'm not a physiotherapist.

All the initiative was handed to Arsenal following the changes. Like I said, in isolation it's a very good result. But we can ill-afford to drop more points if we're serious about a title challenge.

A bit gutting to lose the goal so late on to say the least. But we played with absolute heart.

We will keep on improving over the course of the season, easy to forget that we are still without 4 big players - being able to bring on Marmoush would have been ideal today.

Donnarumma is class, I’m not giving him any grief for their goal which was really well finished.

O’Reilly will be knocking on the door for a midfield spot when Ait-Nouri is back.

Doku has taken a big step forward in quality and consistency of performance, really great to see.

Roll on next week.

What was the city end like normally when we are in London our end is riddled with tourists was it the same today
In parts but if anything the tourists seemed like friends, family of players incl Foden. Felt decent and better than i expected with some golden oldies sung regularly!

They were at it after about a minute, they ended up getting Donnarumma a booking for time wasting.

I despise them, no wonder arteta is how he is, he fits there perfectly.

Donnarumma had to come out to cut down the angle for Martinelli and his lob had to be perfect to get it over him. Not sure why he's getting criticised - if he stayed on his line Martinelli could have found one of the corners of the goal

The odds were stacked against us for this fixture, they have two more days rest/preparation time; they are a strong team who have had a better start to the season and have loads of confidence and the referee is in my view the worst referee for City and he and the VAR recently contrived to make probably the third worst non-handball decision in top level football. What could possibly go wrong?

So to be leading at the end of normal time was pretty good in my eyes. Pep has been criticised in the past for rigidly sticking to a system and being reluctant to use substitutes, so there are signs are he is starting to adapt and to become more flexibible. So, interesting times.

Whilst I can accept the approach that was taken, I cannot see this as anything more than an admission of inferiority, a capitulation of beliefs and i cannot understand how people are framing this as a step forward. A bit melodramatic but I think a part of Pep died today.

O’Reilly Was excellent again. Ait-Nouri wii have to step up to get his place

That set up, tactics and the performance on the whole could only be justified if we nicked all three points.

I am not enjoying this team and football we are trying to play.

It looked ok against shit United and 10 men Napoli, but I don't see the point of Pep hanging on to his job having us played like glorified Crystal Palace and hoping to stay top four contenders, what is the best this team can achieve.

But it was funny to see so many disgruntled Ars fans on the way out of home end.

I thought we were very, very professional. I do not think we will win the League this year but if we can play with the same commitment then the CL is a possible. I also think it showed how good our defenders are when they are asked to defend rather than play as attacking midfielders. That said, Khusanov, Nunes and O'Reilly were all very good despite being out of position! Doku and Haaland were brilliant and ran themselves into the ground and a fit Marmoush and Savinho would have helped. I loved Ederson but the signing of Donnarumma seems to have galvanised the whole team (hopefully). I'm a lot more hopeful now. Well done Pep.

Most of the studio thought it was foul after the game, Pep thought it was a foul, and you know why ?

It was a foul, on Nico, he touched the ball, and their player didn't, and Nico ended up standing on his foot, which was why the ref played on.
I said it was a foul straight away. But I also think it’s the sort of foul that if the ref on the pitch doesn’t give I don’t think VAR should be overruling.
