11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

No, because Haaland gets it right in the box 8 out of every 10 times.

Doku’s output in the box has been average in his career so far.
We have to judge wingers in the context of team performance.
If they have two defenders in front of them and only one person in the box who is surrounded by three, then the only option is to recycle, or choose to hit a defender's legs instead.

Wingers rely on others being able to break free of defensive shackles, and it is no coincidence that the form of Haaland and Foden, and a deeper lying runner in Reijnders, have allowed Doku to flourish.

So, it's not that moment that is the difference but his career so far.

Also, one can have a string of great performances without having had a great career. Nobody has argued Doku has had a great career. Even if he had scored from that chance, his career would have been about the same.

I disagree Doku’s upturn in form is all down to Doku and the freedom Pep has given him to roam off the wing to central areas of the pitch closer to the 18 yard box where his acceleration causes the most havoc, he was exceptional yesterday taking players on in a deeper role, threading balls through to Haaland and maintaining possession and winning free kicks to relieve the pressure.

Yes, but on yesterday’s 2 actual day incidents one was a clear pass for an open net and the other wasn’t. Erling messed up whereas as Doku would have needed KDB vision to see Bernado and it wouldn’t have been an easy square ball

I think the recent change in tactics has really suited him, all three teams we have played have had a go to an extent and not just parked the bus like in recent seasons. This space has allowed doku to flourish, him trying to break down 11 behind the ball and 10 in the box is where he has struggled in the past. Weirdly I think Burnley will be a bigger test than the last three games.

Been fantastic this week and that's what he needs to deliver every single weekend, and I think he will.

Improving week by week. He does have to learn that he is now playing for City, so there is no point lying on the ground when he has been fouled appealing for a free kick he isn't going to get.

All the criticism of Doku was correct at the time, he's taken ages to spark properly, but he is now and consistent end product will make him one of the best players in the world immediately in combination with his dribbling ability

Never had any doubt in him...actually I did but kept the faith mainly because when interviewed he seems to have a strong head on his shoulders & determined to get better.

His strength keeping others off him sometimes twice his size is admiral & I do feel he often gets a raw deal from various refs the way he's manhandled. Other attacking players who are slight in stature such as Isak or Palmer get numerous free kicks the way opponents hang onto Doku.

As you said he might as well give up appealing for free kicks & try to win the ball back. This or do what Grealish is a master of & get fouled & fall on the ball giving the ref no option but to stop play.
