6 | Nathan Ake - 2025/26

Was at fault for the goal but my main concern with him is his fitness. Players get injured all the time but when they come back from the injury, they typically take a few games to get up to speed and then they don’t look injured anymore. Ake, has looked injured for 18 months. I don’t ever remember a footballer who makes it out on to the field, looking as fucked as Ake does. Hes a professional sportsman, playing in a top league, who moves like a 65 year old in constant pain. I don’t know how he is being passed fit. I think he’s finished.

Communication is massive in team sport, and Aké didn’t communicate to Gvardiol that Martinelli was behind him for their goal.

Aka dont even know why we got him in the 1st place, Chelsea didnt even want to keep him. Only attribute he can head in the corners sometimes

Poor for the goal.

But who told them to step up into a high line!? That’s what killed us. We stay camped and that fucking ball over the top that kills us every game never gets played.

Playing a 5-5-0 formation and deciding to push up was such a poor decision it cost us big time, so not all on Ake, but if we do push up you can’t play him on like he did.

Proof that success starts from good defending.

Ake was brought to defend. He ended up pointing finger to his player. Chase him ffs

Not sure whether he’s finished or just needs more minutes. But he runs like the Tin Man at the moment.

It was expecting an obvious foul to be given that should have been given that cost us the 2 points. The team was out of its defensive shape because of it. That's why the defense was high. There's only one person to blame for the goal and that's the ref.

You can see Ake shouting at Gvardiol . He was communicating but not sure if he did it in enough time.
Both seemed to take too long to react.
At fault for me was the line. We barely played that high up all game but choose to do so in injury time when 1 up.
Drop back a couple of yards and that ball can’t be played into the space.
I don’t think you can blame an individual for that.
It’s game management.
We don’t normally play that way but I’m glad we are learning to adapt in certain games.
We are 4 points better off than last season over the same fixtures.
New players, adapting the system.
If dippers hadn’t jammed most of their games we would be in contention. Still think dippers bubble will burst at some point. They will get their injuries

Yeah, you see Ake pointing beforehand and presumably telling Gvardiol that Martinelli is on his shoulder. But no way of knowing how clear that communication was.
And agree on the line - too high with no pressure on the ball. Drop off a couple of yards and it becomes virtually impossible for Eze to drop that ball in behind us.
Donnarumma probably could have dropped off as well to make the lob more difficult.
Collective fuck-up really.
