Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

It is clear to see that Arteta has Stockholm syndrome from his time as Pep’s assistant. They would have been better parting company with him after another disappointing season & replacing him with Thomas Frank
I don’t get the ridiculous lack of respect for Arteta by a handful of bitter old men on these pages. He contributed to some great City seasons, took over a basket case of a squad at Arsenal, cleansed it of all the bad eggs and has consistently delivered Arsenal’s best league finishes since the distant days of peak Wenger. Those who ridicule his 2nd place finishes seem to have trouble joining the dots in terms of context …. he’s been up against the best club side England has ever seen, finishing 2nd to us wasn’t so bad.

Frank, by comparison, got little Brentford punching above their weight and has had a half decent start at Spurs. Another bizarre habit of some bluemooners is to nominate Spurs’ current flavour of the month manager for the really top jobs. Big Ange was the pick to replace Pep by some on here after a decent first few games a couple of years ago. How did that call age.

Spot on from Bernie. 2 1/2 days it’s not enough to recover your body against any opposition let alone a top team.
It’s only the same as playing Wednesday-Saturday. Nobody bats an eyelid when we do that regularly. And all the Europa League and Conference League teams have to play Thursday-Sunday all season.

We play Villa next month after we play Villarreal on the Tuesday and they play in the Europa on the Thursday.

I think the recent change to City"s tactics is needed.
The last 2 games have seen the opposition have a higher percentage of the ball.
This is very, very unusual - especially at home in the Derby.
The opposition will now be uncertain what team and tactics Pep will select.
Agree that the next 2 games will see City dominate the play in the usual manner.
But, say for Spurs, Chelsea or Newcastle away, the tactics will be difficult to predict.
Well done Pep on becoming so unpredictable...
This . For a couple of seasons every team has known how to play against us . Sit deep and counter . We heaved it over the line on fumes for the Four in a Row but last season our legs had gone, so no press and we were dead to the world after sixty minutes . It all looked and felt uninspiring and stagnant.

I think Pep is canny enough to know that a young team needs to gel and gain confidence and variety is fun . They are all apprentices and learning to play different systems well and as a team is going to give them all confidence . We need to use Harland and make him the heart of the team, as he is a generational talent . Mix it up Pep and keep the opposition on their toes .

Hate to say it , as he and that club irritate the hell out of me , but I begrudgingly agree . After President Wenge Arsenal were in danger of sliding down the Rags Basket Case Slide .

Anyone who can persuade those owners to spend money, albeit those pesky Shareholder Loans , and rebuild has got to have a steely determination and will to win . His tendancy towards defending , which can make him too cautious for the big matches, turned Dino into a beast of a DM and his current side is built on a strong defence . His biggest problem is the acute shortage of quality centre forwards , not sure he's solved that yet . Oh , and his relentlessly entitled fan base .

Almost six years into the job and a trophy haul of one FA Cup after spending over a billion pounds (and that was with the previous managers team in reality). The second place finishes are commendable due to our superiority but one trophy is poor. The style of his football makes you wonder how Allardyce and Pulis would have done had they had real money to spend.

In fairness? He's still being paid a fortune. Do the job (for 20 minutes).
I was trying to keep my anger under control believe me. Can take anything but not a lack of effort.

He wants out I'm sure but he was an insult to all the Blues who travelled down there not to mention his team mates who worked their guts out.

Agree but I think Bernie was meaning matches between the title winning potential teams, City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Last year I think united played on Thursday before the derby at our place?

This is how AFTV react to an equaliser, at home in the 5th game of the season. Don't wanna go all celebration police, but shouldn't they leave something for a Treble, a four in a row, domestic quadruple. Embarrassing.

That's pretty much how most on here celebrated Stones' equaliser against Arsenal last season.

When we were at home.

When they had 10 men.

That moment made a difference of 3 points between the teams. 3 points which count the same, whether it's game 5 or game 38.

Didn't you celebrate last year?

we're 4 points up on last season, Arsenal 2 points down and look to be struggling creating anything. We'll finish the season above them this year

Burnt my head out when I rewatched it. It's just really lazy . He's the freshest player on the pitch and should be busting a gut to do something, not turning his back on the ball and jogging away.
I hope the management have taken note can think of one or two others I would put on ahead of this fella in future. Are Spuds still interested do you think?

I think he will , all this talk in the media about are city finished , was it a mistake to play so defensive , is Pep finished is all bollocks imo

Well that's the pill you have to swallow if you only qualify for the duffers cup.
I think with both teams playing mid week in the same trophy, against very tough opposition, plus the team we play the weekend after have a 2 more days to recover, and having to travel down to London is about as unfair as it can get. That is a massive advantage for Arsenal to carry into that game. Great tactical move by Pep and how to deploy a team that wouldn't have been 100% physically.
I use to play football at a decent standard and after playing Saturday, it would be at least Wednesday before my mussels would be loosening up. You can't really train with tight joints and muscles.

Pep has not changed his tactics, circumstances have. In the games we lost this season we were beaten by fitter teams that lasted the whole 90 mins. As soon as we are up to speed and have a full squad you will see the real City. Yes, I believe we will move the ball more progressively in the final third and that will be the only change. From what Pep said the most important thing right now is the team spirit, which was so lacking last season. The rest will follow.
