Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

My mates an Arsenal fan and he's fuming. They have the most active plastic following on all of social media who are so deluded they make the rags look sane sometimes, but their real support know that Arteta is a coward who is scared shitless of us.
It is clear to see that Arteta has Stockholm syndrome from his time as Pep’s assistant. They would have been better parting company with him after another disappointing season & replacing him with Thomas Frank

My point exactly. As I've said, we have the best striker in the world in the form in the form of his life, he scores in the first 9 minutes and we decide not to attack again but defend it for an hour and a half.

That's how teams play who are trying to avoid relegation. How many times do you see a backs to the wall performance that comes off? One in ten? It was suicide, they were always going to score and we just got lucky they didn't get one back earlier.
I thought the Gooners were pretty lucky not to lose, maybe 2-0 or even 3-0. We had the two best chances in the second half. It wasn’t suicidal at all — the lads were out on their feet after playing a top Italian team less than three days before. Plus, one game like that in ten years isn’t too bad, right?"

Ok, my candidate for scapegoat for Arsenal’s goal is Saviniho — what the hell is he doing? Instead of putting pressure on Eze, he turns his back and jogs back towards his own goal.
TBF it was a mix of 3 things, Savs lack of pressure like you say, our high line and Donna's misjudgement. It was just really unfortunate because I think we deserved the win.

Burnt my head out when I rewatched it. It's just really lazy . He's the freshest player on the pitch and should be busting a gut to do something, not turning his back on the ball and jogging away.

But did we play really well? Really?
Did we defend fantastically or did we just defend deep and with numbers?
Listen if you're happy with that, then I respect that. I just believe that we should be better than that. I'm just asking myself, would Real Madrid or Barcelona or Liverpool do that?

It just seems odd to me that Pep would pick this moment to dramatically change his philosophy. For someone who believes, to his very core, that to cede possession so easily is almost a sin. Why now? Why not last year when it probably warranted it more.
Is that the same Real Madrid who came to the Etihad 2 seasons ago & parked the bus

I don't recall them aimlessly lumping the ball forward and substituting all their attacking threat.
I'm not bothered about us parking the bus per se, crack on, but still carry a legitimate threat and retain possession for as long as possible.

Had we held on for 4 minutes longer then everyone who is slagging Pep off for playing that way would be salivating a Pep master class.

The amount of times last season we'd capitulate after conceding Pep has had to tweak his philosophy.

Haaland just before he was substituted looked knacked and Doku passed the ball into the box, Erling didn't react & Marmoush being injured, would have been the ideal substitute.

Posting it twice doesn't make it right.....

True words from Pep, the whole of last season was a shit show, injuries or not.

Pep Guardiola: “I’ve said many times to Jack [Gaughan] and everyday in the press conferences about body language. How we celebrate, how we communicate, how you make an effort for the other ones.

And we lost it a lot last season! I said this season, I don’t give a **** about the results; I want to see the spirit back, in the training sessions, enjoy… And after, the tactics. We lost it last season and we have to recover. This week, we recover. We have to continue.

From there, we’ll learn the process, the tactics - the way [to make us] feel more comfortable to be close to winning games and make proud ourselves and our people.”

not me ,never i will call that kind of football Peps masterclass even if it brings a victory, not sustainable going forward playing like that and that is not how Pep really wants top lay. Who is responsible that he can´t really play the way he wants? Pep himself for these players coming in the last 2 years or sporting director or someone else? The roster was top 3 in the world for a long time and im not sure it even is top 3 in England anymore. Next summer needs to be ruthless in signings.

What’s a roster Kenny?

Savinho makes an effort and we don't concede.Im still fuming about his lack of effort.

If I was a team mate who had run his bollocks off for 90 odd minutes I would have given him shit for that, Doyle or Morrison would make sure he didn't do that again.

In fairness to him he wanted out in the summer and should have gone to give him a chance in WC season.

Maybe we should have let him go but that doesn't excuse his lack of effort. I can forgive mistakes of others but not laziness or a bad attitude.

REPORTER : “Unlucky Bernardo, conceding late just like them last season. Do you still see this as a big point?”
️

Bernardo: “No. That’s the difference. For them, a draw feels like a trophy. For us, we expect more. That’s why we WIN leagues and they win nothing.”

Our goal visibly shook them. It took them until halftime to get over the fear that the City of old could be lurking inside today's City.

Evidently, Captain Scarlet told them to go for it in the second half, so we just stayed in formation, handled wave after wave of attacks with relative ease, but we also posed a danger on the break.

On paper, this match was ArseAnal's to win, lose or draw. They earned a late draw out of it, but considering our different situations, it was the Tarquins who'd be more gutted & worried after the game ended.

Odegaard apart, they were at their strongest. They also knew we were a team in transition & nowhere near our strongest. It's them who'll be having sleepless nights & worrying if they'll ever have enough to go all the way for trophies when it really matters.

Make no mistake about it, we'll have inflicted psychological damage on them yesterday.
