Anyone picked up this virus/ flu thing that’s going around

Don't bother with doing a test.

I've got it now and I've tested negative multiple times but it can only be COVID. I had the exact same thing 3 months ago and I tested negative then too.

It started with stomach problems, then my voice went, headaches, sore throat like glass, cough and cold. Hopefully on the mend now as I've had it for a good week and a bit.

Re the covid speculations, no obvious huge spike going on

No huge spike but hospital admissions up over 15% in a week worth keeping an eye on. It's small numbers and might just be an expected seasonal climb but I assume they'll be able to track that relative to last year.

Unless I've misunderstood I think they've changed the eligibility criteria for the booster this year so that will be interesting to see how that pans out. My brother remains eligible for a flu jab but not COVID which strikes me as odd as I think to the extent they can tell, COVID remains more lethal than a typical seasonal flu (albeit nowhere near the delta of the pandemic) and as a 'young' disease it's long term impacts are less well understood though seem to be broader and more persistent than flu. Thought this was a counter intuitive change though it could just be my local surgery getting it wrong or fobbing me off.

Without proper testing who would know ? The only regulated testing would be on those admitted to hospital because they are seriously ill.

Last week. Rough for 3 days and still coughing like a 60 a day guy, horrible.

Loads round our way the same and it’s rumoured to be yet another new Covid strain although who tests these day?
I did a test last night, as I was feeling a bit shit yesterday (worst I've felt for a couple of years, sneezing for a couple of days, and aching arms and legs), test was -ve, and I feel far better today anyway.

Yeah, it's not a quantitative measure, but you'd expect to see rises in hospitalisation, positivity etc if there was a big spike going on I think?

Anybody had this cough, cold that’s going about its fucking floored me had to give tonight a miss ribs killing through coughing no sleep etc, if you’ve had it how long does it take to ease off, don’t know what I’ve caught but it’s bad shit if you catch it
Yeah, I've got it too
Crept up on me last few days, feel rough as ...
Driving over to Prague at the weekend, I guess Mrs P will be doing a fair bit of the driving

A woman at work has had those exact syptoms for about 2 weeks now.

Well I’ve avoided it for years but I came down with COVID at the start of last week and it absolutely nailed me. I was in bed for nearly 3 days and never felt so ill. I’m negative now but I feel very meh with zero energy and quite the cough to go with it!!

How do you know it was Covid, are you getting tested somewhere! I thought you had to pay for tests these days?

My good lady has had COVID for 8 days now. Was feeling better but she's not feeling great again this evening. She's passed it onto our daughter now.
Looks like I've swerved it but it seems to be rife down here in the sunny south. Might be due to the schools going back. Who knows...

Had a tickle and the start of a sore throat for about 2 weeks now without it ever progressing into anything more serious until yesterday when it floored me in the space of a few hours.

Dont think I've ever had a sore throat this nasty, rather than the problem being deep down my throat past my Adam's apple as usual with a sore throat, its at the back/top of my mouth, its hitting me before I can swallow which is basically forcing me to choke everytime I cough which is fun...

Im not one to sleep during the day but I've pretty much slept clean through today and still feel extremely tired and ache like I've just ran a marathon.

I'll try and keep this short, struggled for three months with a bad cough and body aching. many people told me I should see my GP, I didn't. Could do about an hours work and had to rest then for the rest of the day. A mate called me mid June and said take this seriously I have just had a premonition about you and your white blood cells, go and see your GP

Got an appt with GP, told him of how I felt and asked for some antibiotics. He gave me a weeks worth, took load of bloods for analysis, told me come back in two weeks.

Went back in two weeks, pain and aching had gone, but cough persisted. I ask for more antibiotics but GP said he wanted me to have a scan first.

Went for an ultrasound scan, which led to CT scan, then MRI scan. All the while NHS were superb. In the middle of all this I moved house.

Saw specialist/surgeon at SH who said I had kidney cancer and they needed to operate. Op would be about 4hrs. Booked in at Christies for op at end of August.

I was questioned in the anaesthetic room about any issues I had previously. Told them about the virus which I felt was the new COVID, they seemed concerned.

Anyway I was put under, wheeled into the operating theatre and woke up 4 hours later with the surgeon telling me they had to abort the op as my lungs collapsed twice.

Immediately had another CT scan to see if I had any blood clots - my answer the only clot they would find was me. When I left Christies they gave another course of anti-biotics, this time the size of Willy Wonka's never ending gobstoppers. It was felt I still had some of the virus in my body. Spoke to my GP who said these pills were like 'bleach' and would flush it out - maybe the orange moron was right!!

Since then had an ECG for heart, lung function test and another Pre-Op, next week got to meet the anaesthetist, don't know why as I said to the surgeon the first time, during the op there will be a team of professionals and one amateur, me and I will be asleep

Now going to the new COVID I asked at all the NHS appts I have had since, has the gov't created a new test for the latest strain of COVID and all said not as they are aware.

Have spoken to a couple of customers across the country who have had the same symptoms. One even bought COVID tests which all came back negative, the test isn't up to speed so to speak.

Next op pencilled in for end of Oct

Its a newly evolved variant. Not as severe. I had it, shook it off no worries. I had the second variant 18 months ago and was back at work in two days. My immune system has always been good. I think its my chronic drug and alcohol abuse that keeps me ahead of the game.
