26 | Savinho - 2025/26

Quite funny that all that’s being said isn’t said about Lewis who is far worse while being half a year younger. How weird.
I think one main difference, at least for me, is that Lewis is not taking up a non-homegrown spot, is club trained and is more or less not taking a spot from someone else in the squad due to age and homegrown + club trained status. If he would be sold, he would be replaced by another EDS player. So the question with him is mainly if we have better options in the academy?
While with Savinho, who is taking up a non-homegrown spot, the question is rather if we could sign someone better.

Savinho literally had the best creation stats in our team last season especially when he played the same position he played for Girona ( LW) so it’s weird to say that nothing applies with savinho. Lewis is nowhere near our standard and there‘s no talk.

Doku was called shit here 2 weeks ago despite being our only creator game after game so I won’t take any of this seriously anyway.
The recency bias in this forum is hilarious
Stats for last season: Doku 17 total goals and assists. Savinho 16 total goals and assists

We’ve obviously decided no we can’t. Beside the NHG list is fine now we have 1 space if you don’t include Ortega plus Bernardo and maybe Kovacic will leave next summer giving us 3 spaces. If anything with Foden, Trafford, Bobb, O’Reilly Lewis, it will be CT spaces next season that are tight.

Yes and there was £70 mill on the table so why do you think our coaches and sporting director didn’t sanction a move, why do you think Spurs and Frank did sanction spending that in him. Is there not a slight possibility that those highly paid professionals that see him every day see a bit more potential in a 21 year old than you obviously do.
He may not improve or kick on, but I’m self aware enough to not be as sure either way as you think you are.
tbh I don’t know why we didn’t sell for that either .

Creation stats.i am not only talking about goals and assists. Also savinho played like 5-6 games as a LW and had 5 assists only in the league when playing that side

Tbf if there was a 21 year old with 28 G/A across 2 seasons in the PL and La Liga offered to us for 70m I feel like most would be desperate to buy them.

Until Spurs offered him a move and some deciding he had "character problems" I don't really remember many blues wanting him out at all.

I'm completely of the same opinion and think that if it clicks, he'll be a monster. I'm completely on board with keeping him - didn't want him to go to Spurs.

Still dont see the need to give him a new contract now though.

I think certain people at the club had visions of Cole Palmer, and another instance of us letting a world-class player leave.

I also think that City were not able to find a proper replacement in time.

He has 4 years left on his current deal - why would we lose him on the cheap?

What would be the harm in saying - 'Give us 25/30 G/A in all competitions this season and we'll give you an improved contract'. If he does, great, if he doesnt, he still would have 3 years left and we'd be able to get a decent fee.

Good point. No idea why the club don't tell him to play better to earn a new contract. Innovative idea there. Ultimately they've decided he deserves a new deal and Pep talked today about him needing to improve his final pass/shot to become the finished article. He isn't far away in my opinion.

He has a better game than Doku, who has in the past week shown he can be a top class player. Savinho is much better at dribbling with his head up, it's just his execution of the final ball or shot that's lacking. Those elements are much easier to improve fundamentally than having to improve his touch and dribbling technique so I have no issues keeping him.

He is still so young, and deserves patience. If he doesn't perform we are resourced to bring in better options anyway.

Looked really good early last season but that was then and this is now. Too much aimless farting about, despite his goal. Just hope that’s rustiness after injury but he’s got some way to go to earn a starting slot.

Doesn't he have a starting slot today?

Savinho is ahead of Bobb in the squad but it'll be interesting to see where we see Cherki being used most. Initially I thought he'd share a 10 role with Foden but it seems like Pep will give Foden every minute for as long as he can. Not sure about Cherki's energy and industry on the wing though, seems like a guy we'd rather stayed forwards. Could push Foden out to the right but that seems like a waste.

If Doku's good form continues on the left it'd make sense to use Nunes as the overlapper on the right with Sav / Cherki / Bobb all strong coming inside.

I’m talking about a long term starting slot once everyone is available.

If he starts today, good luck to him. Needs games under his belt.

It's hard to judge with the "injury" and not quite knowing the plan for Cherki but based on his usage last year and Pep’s recent quotes it looks like Sav is our first choice right winger (Unless we're using Bernardo for that controlling role).

I've always been very pro-Savinho and I still think the club sees him as our Doue / Barcola / Guler equivalent, which in terms of many stats he is.

New deal, no worries about wages, Brazil squad place and he could lock down a key spot for us for years to come imo.
